Beyond the Bar Episode 8 recap: Seok-hoon proves he is two steps ahead of everyone else
In the previous episode of Beyond the Bar, Tae-seop accuses Seok-hoon of breaking several professional rules of Yullim, speculating that he is in a relationship with Hye-jin, a second-year lawyer, and that through her, he has obtained confidential information about their ongoing MGC Securities case.
However, in this episode of Beyond the Bar, Seok-hoon is asked if all of the allegations are true. Before proving his innocence, Seok-hoon asks the partners and advisors to take strict actions against whoever is found guilty among himself and Tae-seop, which everyone agrees with.
He then proves that he has not used the information Tae-seop claims, and that the unique ID at the bottom of the paper allows them to determine who wrote it, which turns out to be Kang Min-jun. We are later shown that it was all planned beforehand when Jin-woo comes to Min-jun’s cabin and asks him to let him use his computer to finish the work.
This is when Jin-woo plants the file that Tae-seop and his gang were trying to use against Seok-hoon, making their plan backfire on them. Seok-hoon asks Min-jun if he created the document, and Min-jun requests some time to answer, which Seok-hoon agrees to.
The other allegation about Hye-jin being at Seok-hoon’s home late at night also turns out to backfire on them. Seok-hoon reveals that Hye-jin came to his house at night to report workplace harassment by her senior, Do-yun.
Beyond the Bar Episode 8 recap: Na-yeon takes strict actions against Do-yun
In Beyond the Bar Episode 8, Seok-hoon reveals how Do-yun was particularly harsh on Hye-jin and later used her to host parties for his friends, who were not even lawyers or clients. She also tells Seok-hoon about Do-yun blackmailing her to come with him to those parties.
It is revealed that Hye-jin was not the only one; several of his female associates had to deal with Do-yun's behavior. Na-yeon doesn’t hold back and goes on to catch the culprit red-handed.
She finds him in an entertainment bar where he is hosting a party for his broker friends, accompanied by one of his female associates. Na-yeon then announces that he is fired from his job. This also changes the dynamic between Seok-hoon and Tae-seop, who asks him to close the matter as he realizes the consequences will hit him hard as well.
Seok-hoon then puts two conditions in front of Tae-seop: to send Hui-cheol to DA Solutions and not to meddle in his matters anymore. This will ensure his position and reputation in Yullim, as Seok-hoon will drop the matter if he agrees to them.
Beyond the Bar Episode 8 recap: Hyo-min struggles with Seol-yeon’s case
The other case related to women in Beyond the Bar Episode 8 hits closer to home for Hyo-min as she finds out that the popular reporter of JTBS and her best friend, Seol-a’s sister, has been charged with physically assaulting her husband. Seol-yeon reveals that she does not remember anything.
While investigating, Hyo-min learns that Seol-yeon had been abused by her husband for the last ten years. It has both impacted her physically and mentally, due to which she has been prescribed medicine, which makes her violent, which she does not remember. It gets easier to prove that Seol-yeon was not in her right mind when she attacked her husband.
However, Seol-yeon later confesses to her sister and Hyo-min that she knew the medicine made her violent, and that is the reason she took it before attacking her husband. She tells them that the medicine makes her feel free, as she feels like Wonder Woman. This makes the case tricky as Hyo-min does not want Seol-yeon to go to jail.
Seok-hoon helps her decide how to approach the case. He finds a legal loophole to protect the people who need to be protected. This helps Hyo-min make the decision, as she asks Seol-yeon not to tell anyone about why she took the medicine, not even her doctor.
By hiding the truth about it, Seol-yeon is found not guilty, and Hyo-min successfully saves a victim of abuse.
