The Winning Try Episode 9-10 recap: Ga-ram and Heung-nam’s fight ends with a revelation
Heung-nam has been resenting Ga-ram, perhaps since their school days in The Winning Try. Ga-ram’s team is surprisingly improving so much in just months, raising suspicion in his mind that, like him, he might be providing the players with some kind of drugs, and he almost reports him to the vice principal.
However, Ga-ram stops him and they get into a fight. The principal then punishes them to coach each other’s team until they realize the efforts of the other and make up. Annoyed by their different methods, both the rugby team and the gymnastics team lock the coaches in a room to get over their differences.
While locked up together, Heung-nam witnesses Ga-ram having an attack and is told by him to give back his medicine. Ga-ram then tells him about suffering from Myasthenia Gravis, and when it started, leaving Heung-nam emotional. After knowing about his condition, he makes up with him and joins the old gang for drinks.
It is also revealed that Heung-nam has been resenting Ga-ram for the last twenty years after he was benched while they were in the same rugby team in high school. Ga-ram then reveals that he was the one who asked the coach about not making him play as he was recovering from an injury, while Heung-nam thought he was not allowed to play because everyone thought he was not a good rugby player.
The Winning Try Episode 9-10 recap: I-ji comes back for U-jin
In episode 9 of The Winning Try, U-jin’s mother does not let her reveal the truth about her head coach attacking her, after she makes a deal with her to send U-jin to play for a pro team. However, it is later revealed that U-jin is not able to shoot altogether.
The injury in one of U-jin’s ears has affected her balance, as he is not able to stand and shoot the target. I-ji, who was supposed to concentrate on her own training for the Nationals, since it was her last attempt, decides to come back to the school to help U-jin.
She begs Coach Nak-gyeon to let her come back, as this time, she will keep her eyes and mouth shut. While this enrages Ga-ram, Nak-gyeon takes her back. This allows her to train U-jin to get back on her feet and be prepared for the upcoming nationals.
The Winning Try Episode 9-10 recap: Seong-jun’s mistake becomes a problem for Ga-ram
While I-ji and Ga-ram’s relationship improves in The Winning Try, U-jin and Ung’s closeness begins to annoy Seong-jun. It affects him so much that he gets distracted while training with a pro team hurts his shoulder.
However, he keeps it a secret until, while training with his own team, he injures himself on the same shoulder. While he might not need surgery, the doctor recommends that he take complete rest and not engage in heavy physical activities like playing rugby or training. However, he still comes back to train until Ga-ram refuses.
Not being able to play rugby makes Seong-jun useless, and he takes the worst decision and contacts a smuggler to obtain steroids that would make him play the nationals. However, the school learns about this, and after searching his room, they find the drugs on his study table. Ga-ram asks him if he has taken the drugs, to which Seong-jun refuses.
Ga-ram later reveals in front of everyone about his health condition and tells them that the drugs were not for Seong-jun but for himself.
