Billy the Kid Season 3 Episode 2 recap: Billy strikes back after Miguel's betrayal

MGM+'s hit western drama series, Billy the Kid Season 3, starring Tom Blyth, premiered on September 28, 2025. Episode 1 of Billy the Kid Season 3, titled "The Beginning of the End," picks up right after the events of the Season 2 finale. When Sheriff Garrett and Governor Wallace put Billy behind bars, Billy escapes with the help of Dulcinea. Billy the Kid Season 3 Episode 2 recap: Miguel Otero betrays Billy, and the regulators are attacked

The episode opens in chaos. Billy and the Regulators are caught off guard by an unexpected ambush led by Sheriff Pat Garrett. Unbeknownst to Billy, Miguel Otero betrayed him and revealed his plans to his enemies. A fierce shootout breaks out between the two groups. Juan Patron takes a bullet to the arm, while Fred Waite is hit in the chest as he drags Juan to safety. Eventually, Fred dies. During the crossfire, Billy nearly kills the sheriff. As the situation destabilizes, the Regulators and Billy retreat.

Soon, Billy realizes that he made a grave mistake in trusting Miguel Otero. Miguel's betrayal shifts the tide of the war, and Billy vows to settle the score. Billy pledges,

"I made a mistake trusting Otero, and now Fred and the others are gone."

Despite the wounds and the loss, George Coe insists nothing has changed, and they will fight till the end. Their next stop? Fort Summer, where Billy plans to regroup with Pete Maxwell.

Billy the Kid Season 3 Episode 2: Power plays and broken promises

Meanwhile, tensions rise in Lincoln County's political scene. Thomas Catron plots his next move as Governor Wallace faces potential removal from office. Catron's dinner celebration turns sour when his daughter Emily reveals she has lost her baby. The news sparks a heated exchange between her, Catron, and Edgar Waltz. Emily blames Catron for only thinking about himself and not about others. Catron belittles Emily. Waltz takes his wife Emily's side as he firmly says,

"Emily is entitled to have her own opinion."

Eventually, this leads to Waltz telling Catron that he wants to quit the job, but Catron tells him that he knows too much about his business and he can't afford to lose him. Later, Emily finds Waltz hanging in the room. She rushes to Catron and confronts him. She believes that Catron has murdered Waltz and that the investigation was rigged.

Elsewhere, Major Murphy drowns in regret and loneliness. He suffers a cardiac arrest and dies alone, a quiet and tragic end.

Billy the Kid Season 3 Episode 2: Garrett is on a hunt for Billy

Back at Fort Summer, Billy reconnects with allies, including Charlie Beaudry. They plan to strike back at Garrett and his men, but their safety is short-lived. Garrett's posse storms Pete Maxwell's abode in search of Billy. Despite an intense standoff, Pete hides Billy, and Garrett leaves empty-handed, even though his suspicion remains.

Jesse Evans, still reeling from Ana Baca's death, confesses to killing her murderer and finds himself drawn into Garrett's pursuit of Billy. His torn loyalties set up a dangerous emotional conflict.

The next morning, Billy slips away, tracking down Miguel. Without any hesitation, he brutally stabs Miguel Otero and kills the man who betrayed him. It's a cold and brutal act that shows Billy will stop at nothing to get justice.
