Paramount's popular television creator, Taylor Sheridan, is revealed to be leaving the studio. Deadline reported that Sheridan has made a deal with NBCUniversal, which will begin in January 2029, after the Yellowstone creator's contract expires with Paramount in 2028.

Taylor Sheridan has created various superhit shows for the studio which includes Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, and Landman, among others. However, Sheridan is not alone as his longtime collaborator David Glasser is also moving to the same studio, with him, his 101 studios, which produces all of Sheridan-created iconic TV shows, will also be moving to NBCUniversal.

More on this in our story.

Is Taylor Sheridan leaving Paramount? Details explored

Paramount+ had been thriving with Taylor Sheridan-created TV shows, making him one of the assets for the studio. Therefore, the news of his leaving the studio came as a shock to many. As per Deadline, it is a five-year deal where Sheridan will create shows and films that will be available to watch on platforms such as NBC and Peacock.

Starting with Yellowstone, Sheridan created many more TV shows that are among the biggest in Paramount's streaming platform.

This is another shocker after the Skydance acquisition of Paramount Global in August 2025. The first surprising news was of the creators of Stranger Things, the Duffer brothers, leaving Netflix for a deal with Skydance-owned Paramount. However, Taylor Sheridan's leaving Paramount was a shock because just in August, Deadline reported that Cindy Holland, Paramount’s Chair of Direct-to-Consumer, praised Sheridan for his work with the studio and said:

"On Paramount+ today, we have a really great foundation, which is the Taylor Sheridan universe."

Furthermore, the CEO of Paramount, David Ellison, called the creator a genius and said:

"A singular genius with a perfect track record."

As per Deadline, apart from shows being cancelled and top creators leaving and joining in, executives have also gone through massive change. For instance, co-CEO Chris McCarthy of Paramount Global left his position. He was known for helping Sheridan in creating his massive TV shows. The Tulsa King creator had freedom to create the expensive shows, all of which are among the top-ranked shows on Paramount+.

With this new deal with NBCUniversal, Taylor Sheridan will create numerous other TV shows and films as well that will air on NBC and will streamed on Peacock after 2028. Sheridan leaving Paramount is a huge loss for the studio due to his incredible work that brought the streaming platform in competetion with other bigger studios.

While it's a massive plan, it is the TV show deal that made it more groundbreaking. While Sheridan will start working for NBCUniversal in 2029, Galsser will begin in 2026, after the expiration of his contract with Paramount.

Sheridan will leave Paramount in 2029, but before this, he has two new Yellowstone spinoffs coming, namely, The Madison and Beth & Rip, which will premiere on Paramount+.
