Boston Blue, the much-awaited spin-off of Blue Bloods, has finally set its premiere date on CBS. The show continues the journey of Danny Reagan, who relocates from New York to Boston, seeking a fresh start in his life.

The police procedural drama was announced in February 2025, two months after the original show’s conclusion, and ever since, fans have been awaiting updates about the spin-off. Donnie Wahlberg reprises his role as Danny in the show and is joined by a new cast.

CBS has now confirmed that Boston Blue will premiere on October 17, 2025. On the contrary, new seasons of Blue Bloods traditionally used to debut in the last week of September or the first week of October.

Boston Blue to premiere on October 17, 2025

CBS announced the premiere dates of its various shows recently and confirmed that Boston Blue will debut on October 17, 2025. New episodes of the series will be released weekly on Fridays at 10 p.m., with the broadcast lasting for one hour.

The news comes just a few days after the show underwent a major casting change. It was announced that Mika Amonsen will be playing Danny's youngest son, Sean Reagan, in the spin-off, instead of Andrew Terraciano, who portrayed the character across all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods.

In Boston Blue, Detective Danny Reagan leaves the NYPD and joins the Boston Police Department. He then teams up with Detective Lena Peters, who also comes from a family of officers just like him. The official synopsis of the show reads:

“[The series follows] NYPD Detective Danny Reagan as he takes a position with Boston PD. Once in Boston, he is paired with Detective Lena Silver, the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.”

The show features a relatively fresh cast, but Donnie Wahlberg has previously teased that some of the Blue Bloods cast members can make cameo appearances in the spin-off. He told Parade:

“New York and Boston are really close. They’re not that far apart. Yeah, Blue Bloods is important to the audience, it’s important to me, it’s important to Sonequa [Martin-Green, Danny’s new partner]. She’s a Blue Bloods fan. She’s my partner, and she’s a Blue Bloods fan. She wants to keep that legacy alive, as well.”

Meanwhile, the series regulars in Boston Blue include Donnie Wahlberg as Danny Reagan, Sonequa Martin-Green as Lena Silver, Sonequa Martin-Green as Lena Silver, Gloria Reuben as Mae Silver, Ernie Hudson as Reverend Peters, Marcus Scribner as Jonah Silver, and Mika Amonsen as Sean Reagan.

The show has been developed by Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis, who also serve as executive producers along with Wahlberg, Jerry Bruckheimer, and KristieAnne Reed.

Blue Bloods aired on CBS from 2010 to 2024 and consistently garnered good ratings. The show was surprisingly canceled after its 14th season, after which fans demanded its return, but CBS decided to greenlight the spin-off instead.
