The elite cast of Boston Blue has yet another legendary actor joining its crew—popular Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson is all set to join the cast of Boston Blue in a permanent role. The show is a spin-off of the popular CBS show, Blue Bloods, and is set in the timeline after the departure of Danny Raegan from the NYPD.

Played by Donnie Wahlberg, the character of Danny Reagan is followed as he takes on his new role at the Boston PD and embraces the responsibilities that come along with the role.

In his new role at the Boston PD, Danny Raegan is partnered with the ambitious and quick-witted Lena Silver, played by Sonequa Martin-Green, and the show follows the duo as they attempt to take on cases and solve them.

What role does Ernie Hudson play in the Blue Bloods spin off, Boston Blue?

In Boston Blue, Ernie Hudson is seen playing the role of Reverend Peters, who is a spiritual leader who helms a historical Baptist Church, and is known and respected for his open-mindedness. He is popular for his warmth and wisdom and is often known to bridge gaps between the religious and civic communities.

Apart from being a spiritual leader, Reverend Peters is also the patriarch of the Silver family—a family that plays a very important role in the law and order division of Boston. The silver family includes the Boston District Attorney, Mae Silver; Superintendent Ashley Silver; Danny Raegan's partner, Lena Silver (who happens to be Reverend Peters' granddaughter); and a rookie patrol officer named Isaac Silver.

Aside from the popular CBS show spin-off, Hudson is also set to appear in many exciting projects this year. He is set to be part of Toy Story 5, where he will play the voice of Combat Carl, the popular G.I. Joe-style action figure who was earlier played by the late Carl Weathers. The character first appeared in the original Toy Story and later made a reappearance in Toy Story 4.

As for his return as Winston Zeddemore in Ghostbusters, while there has been no official confirmation for a sequel to Frozen Empire, Hudson has clarified that he is open to any future installments of the franchise.

Speaking about his character, Ernie Hudson says,

"I don’t want Winston looking for a steady paycheck 40 years later. I wanted to see him grow, and they allowed that. He’s a businessman now, and that’s really exciting… And so I’d love to see more."

Boston Blue is set to premiere sometime in fall 2025-2026, although an official release date has not been announced yet. The show will be available to watch on CBS at the same time as the original show—10 PM.
