Boston Blue Episode 3 recap: Lena and Danny take up an intense investigation

Lena and Danny were assigned to the murder case of Kathy Sullivan in Boston Blue Episode 3. Since Kathy Sullivan was a low-level dr*g offender, who was found dead with pockets full of 'The Killer Whale,' a new kind of dr*g plaguing the Boston streets, this case fell into the hands of the Dr*g Control Unit. Detective Brian Rogers, Lena's former partner who transferred to Dr*g Control Unit, was also brought on the case.

As Lena, Danny and Brian worked on the case, they learned that the new dr*g was being pushed on the streets by a man named Mitchell Edgars. While they initially suspected Bones, one of Edgar's men, to be Kathy's killer, it turned out that she overdosed in the Boston harbour and died on the spot.

However, Bones' suspicious death caused another mystery in the case. Thanks to Danny and Lena's investigative prowess, they caught Mitchell Edgars in the act. He had killed his man because it was Bones' carelessness that caused Kathy to overdose and the cops also found their labeled dr*gs on her person. Edgars wanted to teach his men a lesson by killing Bones but he was finally put behind bars and the Boston streets were free of his killer dr*g.

Boston Blue Episode 3 proved that Danny and Lena are more similar than they might realize. The arrival of Lena's former partner opened old wounds for her. It was revealed that Brian had developed feelings for her while working together. However, like Danny, Lena also had a strict work policy and she had vowed never to enter into a romantic relationship with her partner.

Now that Brian was no longer her partner, he tried his luck once again and asked Lena out on a date, but she was still reluctant.

Danny saw through Lena's discomfort around Brian in Boston Blue Episode 3 and gave her good advice. From experience, Danny understood Lena's doubts about a romantic relationship but he advised her to give it a chance. He said:

"I've been there...after my wife died, I was afraid to get hurt again - that was, until a very wise man gave me some very sage advice, and I actually took it, and I don't regret it. But this is not about me, it's about you."

Thanks to Danny's sound advice, Lena decided to give it a shot with Brian and agreed to his date. After playing cupid for Lena and Brian, Danny got a romantic surprise of his own when he reached the elevator. He was greeted by Blue Bloods' alum and his girlfriend, Maria Baez, who was in town for a romantic weekend with him.
