Donnie Wahlberg's Boston Blue is seeing newfound global success in more than 100 markets - thanks to the large number of international fans

The likelihood of a Boston Blue Season 2 only increased as the spin-off of Blue Bloods is popular across the world. Deadline was the first to reveal this through a report that was published on October 24, 2025. This is surprising considering the Blue Bloods spin-off is just two episodes in, as the series began airing on CBS on October 17, 2025.

Two characters, Boston police detective Lena Silver, played by Sonequa Martin-Green, and Frank Reagan's eldest son, Danny Reagan, played by Donnie Wahlberg, headline Boston Blue. The spin-off sees Danny move to Boston after the Blue Bloods finale, after an attempt on his son's life, who is also a police officer in the Boston PD. The official logline of the series reads:

“In ‘Boston Blue,’ a universe expansion of the long running top drama ‘Blue Bloods,’ Wahlberg will reprise his role as NYPD Officer Danny Reagan as he takes a position with Boston PD. Once in Boston, he is paired with Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.”

It seems that Boston Blue has impressed international buyers:

The show premiered for the first time at the Marché International des Programmes de Communication (MIPCOM), an annual trade show in Cannes on October 12, 2025. It seems that the show made a lasting impression on international buyers, such as Sky and AXN Asia. The Deadline report said this regarding the international buyers:

"The roster of international buyers snapping up the show includes AXN Asia and Coupang Play in Korea. M-Net has acquired it for Africa and Sky for New Zealand. In Europe, Boston Blue has landed at pay-TV giant Sky in German-speaking territories. It is also headed to Play Media in Belgium, Cosmote TV in Greece, Síminn in Iceland and beIN in Cyprus and Turkey. Elsewhere, it will be on CTV and in Australia on Paramount+."

What is the CBS police procedural about?

As mentioned earlier, the spin-off revolves around Danny leaving his life in New York behind and taking on a job in the Boston police, where he is paired with Detective Lena Silver. The Boston Blue premiere is set after the events of the Blue Bloods finale, which ended with Frank continuing as the NYPD commissioner. But as we learn in the spin-off's first episodes, Danny's younger son Sean is serving in the Boston PD because of an NYPD police freeze.

There's an attempt on Sean's life in Boston, prompting Danny to move to Boston temporarily to help his son. However, over the second episode, we see Danny make up his mind to be there for his son, despite a newly formed relationship with Detective Maria Baez. Thus, towards the end of the episode, we see him decide to permanently move to Boston for Sean.

This sets up an interesting storyline for the third episode, where Danny needs to familiarize himself with a new city after spending most of his life in New York. The official logline for the third episode, "History", airing on October 31, 2025, reads:

“A body found on the Boston wharf pulls Lena and Danny into a tense drug investigation alongside Lena’s former partner, Detective Brian Rodgers (Ryan Broussard), sparking personal and professional friction. Jonah and Sean chase down a missing man tied to a scavenger hunt, while Sarah and Mae navigate emotional challenges at home and in court.”
