Boston Blue Episode 3: Release date news, time, streaming details, and more

Boston Blue has aired two episodes so far. The first two episodes have been planting the seeds for something major that will shake up the Blue Bloods franchise. The premiere episode saw Danny Reagan move to Boston after an attempt on his Boston police officer son, Sean's life. Now, in the second episode, the NYPD detective decides to stay in Boston for good.

This move is significant because Danny has just started dating again in Boston Blue, after being widowed in the eighth season of the original series. Thus, Danny moves to Boston and takes a permanent position with the Boston Police Department in the second episode of the series. But, in the coming week, Danny must solve another gruesome case.

The Boston Blue Episode 3, which is titled "History", will see Danny and Lena dragged into a narcotics case while investigating a murder. The official logline of the third episode reads:

“A body found on the Boston wharf pulls Lena and Danny into a tense drug investigation alongside Lena’s former partner, Detective Brian Rodgers (Ryan Broussard), sparking personal and professional friction. Jonah and Sean chase down a missing man tied to a scavenger hunt, while Sarah and Mae navigate emotional challenges at home and in court.”

What is the CBS series about?

A spin-off of the iconic CBS hit, Blue Bloods, the series, headlined by Donnie Wahlberg and Sonequa Martin-Green, is set after the events of the original show's finale. The series begins with an attempt on Danny's son, Sean's, life, who is serving in the Boston PD. Sean is unable to join the NYPD because of the hiring freeze. Thus, Dany decides to take a position in the Boston PD to be close to his young son. The official logline of the series reads:

“In ‘Boston Blue,’ a universe expansion of the long running top drama ‘Blue Bloods,’ Wahlberg will reprise his role as NYPD Officer Danny Reagan as he takes a position with Boston PD. Once in Boston, he is paired with Detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.”

The decision to permanently move to Boston also has a major repercussion on Danny and Detective Maria Baez's relationship, as the two finally started dating in this series. TVLine asked series co-creator Brandon Sonnier whether Dany consulted the other members of the Reagan Family about moving to Boston and whether it was a tough decision for him, too. To this Sonnier answered:

"It certainly was. As a lifelong New Yorker, someone who spends every Sunday with his family around the same table, it's a difficult decision — and one that plays through the rest of the season. Yes, he's made the decision and he's there; we don't get the feeling he's leaving anytime soon because of his declaration of being there for Sean, being another Reagan on the police force for Sean. But that doesn't mean it's easy. It doesn't mean he doesn't have regrets or things he feels like he's missing back in New York. That's part of the character and part of his arc through the season."
