Bridgerton has always been about love stories that challenge rules and expectations. And Sophie Baek (played by Yerin Ha) fits into that theme. In the books, Sophie Beckett was the illegitimate daughter of an earl who ended up living like a servant in her own home. The show has reimagined her as Sophie Baek. She's a maid with a hidden past.

The character is all the more intriguing because of her background and her sense of dignity. In the sneak peeks shared by Netflix so far, we see that she doesn’t even utter a word to be noticed. Yet there’s something about her. She has a calmness and a pristine beauty that make her stand out even in a crowded room.

Sophie Baek is also the only leading lady in the show who isn’t born into privilege or the world of the ton. Netflix describes her as someone who’s spent most of her life working as a maid, and that already makes her story stand out. The show has always given us women from noble families or high society circles. But Sophie comes from a place far removed from that. Her background adds a new kind of depth that explores love, identity, and belonging from a very different point of view.

Yerin Ha is a revelation in this role. Her version of Sophie Baek is about authenticity that make the character come alive. There’s something about her presence right from her posture to the way she looks at Benedict. Bridgerton has given us many unforgettable female leads, but Sophie feels like the kind of heroine who will set a new standard.
