Business Proposal is a light-hearted K-drama rom-com that became a huge fan favorite when it aired in 2022. It follows the chaotic but sweet story of Shin Ha-ri, an ordinary employee who accidentally ends up on a blind date with her own boss without him realizing her true identity.

The show originally aired for 12 episodes on SBS TV from February 28 to April 5, 2022, and is available for streaming on Netflix in selected countries. The series is based on a popular web novel, which was later turned into a webtoon by HaeHwa and eventually adapted into this live-action drama.

Shin Ha-ri, played by Kim Se-jeong, works as a food researcher at a company called Go Food. One day, her best friend Jin Young-seo (played by Seol In-ah) asks her for a favor: to pretend to be her on a blind date set up by her father.

Young-seo wants nothing to do with arranged marriages and hopes that Ha-ri can make the date go badly on purpose. However, things don’t go as planned. The man Ha-ri meets on the blind date turns out to be Kang Tae-moo (played by Ahn Hyo-seop), the young and successful CEO of Go Food and Ha-ri's actual boss.

To make matters more complicated, Tae-moo is being pressured by his grandfather to settle down and get married. Tired of being set up on endless dates, Tae-moo quickly decides to marry the woman he meets, unaware that she’s not who she says she is, and that she works for him.

When the real Jin Young-seo later reveals the truth about her fake stand-in, Ha-ri tries to disappear from Tae-moo’s life. The story continues in Business Proposal as Young-seo tricks her into another encounter with him.

To avoid exposing herself further, Ha-ri lies again, this time claiming her name is Shin Geum-hui, which is actually the name of a character from a popular TV show. Tae-moo, frustrated yet intrigued, offers Ha-ri a deal. He’ll pay her 800,000 won per date if she continues pretending to be his girlfriend.

He believed this way he could finally get his grandfather off his back. Ha-ri reluctantly agrees because she needs the money to support her family. As the pretend relationship continues, Tae-moo and his loyal secretary Cha Sung-hoon (played by Kim Min-kyu) help build an entire fake backstory for Ha-ri to present to his grandfather.

But as time passes, real emotions begin to form between Tae-moo and Ha-ri, making their fake setup increasingly complicated. Meanwhile, another romance blooms between Young-seo and Sung-hoon.

Later in the Business Proposal, they discover they’re neighbors, and their chemistry is instant. Although Sung-hoon tries to distance himself at first, especially after learning about Young-seo’s role in deceiving Tae-moo, he eventually admits his feelings, and they begin dating.

By the final episodes of Business Proposal, all the secrets come out. Tae-moo finds out Ha-ri’s real identity, and though he’s hurt at first, he realizes that his feelings are real.

He chooses to forgive her and pursue a genuine relationship. His grandfather, however, isn’t immediately accepting and asks Ha-ri to stop seeing him. Still, Tae-moo defies expectations and proposes to Ha-ri this time for real, showing that he loves her for who she is, not the fake identity she used before.

As for Young-seo and Sung-hoon, their relationship also grows stronger. By the end of the series, they are engaged and happily in love, marking a satisfying resolution to their story as well.
