HBO Max kick-started the second innings of John Cena's helmet-wearing antihero in Peacemaker Season 2 on August 21, 2025. In addition to exploring a whole new alternate reality, thanks to the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, the titular vigilante is also being chased by Rick Flag Sr. (Frank Grillo), who is hell-bent on taking revenge for his son's murder in The Suicide Squad film.

This sophomore installment of James Gunn's beloved superhero series certainly has a lot going on for the titular character, and fans are worried about the two storylines. Alternate realities in the DCU are complicated enough, and Flag Sr.'s revenge plotl adds to the chaos.

Recently, Peacemaker Season 2 fans took to Reddit to speculate on the sophomore run of the series. While some believed the two storylines could likely overwhelm the series, others were hopeful that a connection between the two could prove to be successful in the long run.

Here's what fans are saying about Peacemaker Season 2 on Reddit.

Reddit fans speculate on the two storylines of Peacemaker Season 2

Things are certainly changing for John Cena's titular vigilante in Peacemaker Season 2, as he readies himself to explore an alternate reality after encountering a door in the Quantum Unfolding Chamber. On the other hand, A.R.G.U.S. director Rick Flag Sr. begins his revenge quest on Peacemaker after he discovers that Cena's anti-hero killed his son, Rick Flag Jr.

While Peacemaker Season 2 is rife with possibilities and new plot points, some Reddit fans believe that the two storylines can make the sophomore season feel overstuffed. A fan expressed concern on a Reddit post:

''I feel season 2 may feel kinda overstuffed with its 2 majors plots of Rick flag sr. Hunting down peace maker and peacemaker going to another universe. I feel like only 1 of these plots should’ve covered season 2 preferably the other universe one...'' u/Blaze14192008 started the conversation

Soon, many fans flocked to Reddit and expressed their opinions on the two storylines. While some fans agreed that the two storylines could feel overwhelming in a total runtime of just eight episodes, u/TheLeanerWiener pointed out that they are interconnected:

''It seems that part of the reason Peacemaker wants to go to the other universe is because Rick Flag Sr. is hunting him down. So I don't think it will be that overstuffed.''

Additionally, Cena's titular antihero exploring the alternate universe is one of the major storylines in Peacemaker Season 2, which is supported by Rick Flag Sr.'s hunt and quest for vengeance. Since many of Gunn's previous DC movies and TV shows have also handled multiple storylines impressively and simultaneously, many fans are not too worried.

''I mean, season 1 had the White Dragon plotline and the Butterflies plotline. I wouldn't worry too much lol, 8 episodes should be enough to let each story breathe. it worked for S1,' posted u/SodaSalesman.
''It's all in how you handle the story. If James Gunn wrote and directed a great 8 episode show last season, no reason he won't do the same in the next season,'' wrote u/KittyHamilton, not seeming too worried about the two storylines.

While Rick Flag Sr.'s debut in the sophomore season brings another problem for our helmet-wearing vigilante, it also resolves one of the most shocking deaths in the DC Universe (from The Suicide Squad) - that of his son, Rick Flag Jr. It was certainly important for Peacemaker to stop Flag Jr. after he threatened to expose Amanda Waller and her Task Force X's efforts in relation to Project Starro.

After Flag Jr. became a threat and liability for Waller and the Task Force, Peacemaker fatally stabbed him in the heart with a shard of glass. This was one of the most pivotal moments from the titular hero's life, and he feels remorse for his actions, as hinted in the trailer.

While Flag Jr.'s death was an irreversible action, it has certainly come to bite Cena's anti-hero again in Peacemaker Season 2. The two storylines do feel overstuffed to some fans, but others believe that they mutually co-exist in the show. Additionally, Frank Grillo's comments in some of the interviews suggest that this revenge arc might get an early resolution, leaving plenty of time for the alternate reality storyline in Season 2.

Peacemaker Season 2 Episode 3 will release on HBO Max on September 4, 2025.
