While the recap in the opening of Peacemaker Season 2's premiere clarifies how the popular HBO series fits into the DCU, some are still confused about the timeline. For those who don't know, the first episode of the HBO show, The Ties That Grind, begins with a recap that retcons the events of Peacemaker Season 1 into the DCU.

The Justice League's appearance in the season 1 finale has been replaced with the Justice Gang's appearance. Now, the Justice Gang that the 11th Street Kids consists of David Corenswet's Superman, Mr. Terrific, Supergirl, Hawkgirl, and Green Lantern. Instead of Aquaman and The Flash, we see the faces of Green Lantern and Hawkgirl.

The appearance of the Justice Gang has fans wondering where Anthony Carrigan's Metamorpho was in this scene from Peacemaker Season 2. To this, James Gunn revealed that the 11th Street Kids thwarted Project Butterfly and met the Justice Gang before Superman.

This means that the scenes after the Peacemaker Season 2 recap take place after Superman:

A fan asked Gunn whether Metamorpho was no longer a part of the Justice Gang, to which Gunn revealed that the entire recap portion of Peacemaker Season 2 occurred before Superman. Honestly, it was clear that Project Butterfly and the rest of the first season's events take place before Creature Commandos and Superman.

As for the main theme of this season, it seems that John Cena's protagonist will learn that the grass is greener on the other side. Peacemaker Season 2 actor confirmed this theme in The Hollywood Reporter interview published on August 22, 2025:

"A hundred percent! It’s a big theme, and it’s a theme that’s tested throughout the season."

Agee asked the interviewer if the latter had been given just the first five episodes of season 2, to which the reporter responded with a yes. Agee went on to explain why James Gunn gave press members the first five episodes of the second season:

"There’s a reason for that. The last three episodes are almost like a whole new season. They are absolutely insane, and they really cross into that actual question even more so."

Thus, it seems that Steve Agee echoes James Gunn's statement from last week, where he revealed that the sixth, seventh, and eighth episodes of the second season are kept secret because of spoilers. When asked the reason behind not providing access to the rest of the season, here's what he told Brandon Davis regarding the last three episodes:

"It could mean they're terrible. That is one option. Or it could mean that there's a lot of major twists and turns in the last three episodes. And even though I'm sending the first five to a select few, things still get out as you know. Things got out already. You know, people who want to search can be spoiled on purpose, but I really don't want what's in those last three episodes to be spoiled. And so I'm keeping them close to the chest. I won't even let my publicist see them. That's the god's honest truth"

Peacemaker Season 2, Episode 1 is currently streaming on HBO Max.
