Chicago Fire Season 14 casting news brings a disappointing update for fans — Michael Bradway will not be returning to the NBC hit series. Bradway portrays the role of Jack Damon, Kelly Severide’s (played by Taylor Kinney) half-brother on the show. The actor will be working on Prime Video’s upcoming series based on the novel Every Summer After, written by Carley Fortune. However, the creators of Chicago Fire are keen to have the actor back on the show if his time permits.
Recently, two other cast members also exited the show ahead of Chicago Fire Season 14 - Daniel Kyri, who portrayed the role of Dareen Ritter, and Jake Lockett, who played Sam Carver. Nonetheless, there is also some good news in store as Brandon Larracuente of On Call fame will be joining the series in the upcoming season.
Michael Bradway will not return for Chicago Fire Season 14
Bradway, as Jack Damon, has appeared on Chicago Fire in Seasons 12 and 13 as a firefighter for Firehouse 51. He has appeared in about 17 episodes of Chicago Fire. Damon first appeared in episode 10 of Season 12, titled ‘The Wrong Guy’, after Derrick Gibson (played by Rome Flynn) took a leave of absence from the department.
Damon’s rookie status showed off his charming yet rebellious attitude. He would proudly talk to Stella Kidd (played by Miranda Rae Mayo) about his dream of being part of the 51. As twists would go, the Season 12 finale titled ‘Never Say Goodbye’ revealed that Damon is Kelly Severide’s younger half-brother.
In Chicago Fire Season 13 episode 3 titled ‘All Kinds of Crazy’, Chief Dom Pascal (played by Dermot Mulroney) will end up transferring Damon for his disobedience. The complex relationship between Damon, Severide, and Stella becomes one of the key storylines in Season 13 of the series. Stella, however, does eventually decide to bring him back to 51. Damon would also develop a casual romantic relationship with paramedic Lyla “Lizzy” Novak (played by Jocelyn Hudon).
Damon's exit from the show is surprising, and it remains to be seen how his absence will be addressed in the upcoming season. During an interview ahead of Chicago Fire Season 14, showrunner Andrea Newman shared that the series will be going through a lot of change. As per TV Line, Newman said,
“We’re going to have a lot of turnover…and a lot craziness going on in the CFD from the top, where people are being cut and moved, and everything’s going to get shaken up next season.”
Chicago Fire Season 14 is currently in production and is expected to premiere on NBC in the 2025-2026 window.
All seasons of Chicago Fire can be streamed on Peacock.
