The Burzek wedding was one of the most anticipated moments in Chicago P.D., and fans cheered on when Kim Burgess and Adam Ruzek finally tied the knot in the Season 12 finale after years of troubles.
However, Henry "Hank" Voight is not a big fan of office romances. The sergeant has become lenient with the couple and supported them at their wedding, as he loves both of them, but he is aware of the challenges of having a couple at the Intelligence Unit’s office.
In a recent interview with Us Weekly, Jason Beghe, who plays Voight, talked about his character’s mixed feelings about the Burzek wedding. The actor said that while he is happy for the couple, he is aware that their relationship might cause some trouble at the office. He said:
“[Voight] accepts it and supports it, and [he does] love them both, but it is a potential problem. [It is a] reality now, and [Voight has to] be aware of how [to] delegate responsibilities to prevent them as best [he] can from overlapping.”
Jason Beghe talks about Voight’s thoughts on the Burzek wedding in Chicago P.D.
During the interview, Jason Beghe added that despite his character's mixed feelings, he is going to be there for Kim Burgess and Adam Ruzek and will protect them no matter what. He added that the sergeant considers the officers as his family, and even their daughter, Makayla, is now a part of his family:
“It can lead to bad decisions and mistakes, but it is what it is. So [he’ll] support them and fight for them — give his last drop of blood to protect them. They’re a family now – that includes [their daughter] Makayla. She’s [Voight’s] family.”
Sparks flew between Burgess and Ruzek in the very first season of Chicago P.D., but it took them 12 years to finally tie the knot. Their relationship went through several ups and downs over the years and became a highlight of the show.
In Season 1, the two had flirty encounters despite Adam being engaged at the time. They eventually kissed and hooked up by the end of the season, and expressed their feelings for each other. Their romance then grew stronger, and they got engaged in the second season.
After some tensions between the two, they called off their engagement, but later reconnected due to a one-night stand. Then, in Season 8, they became closer than ever and decided to adopt a girl, Makayla. In Chicago P.D. Season 12 Episode 22, they finally said ‘I do’ after multiple challenges.
The 13th season of the show will now explore their life as newlyweds, while the intelligence unit is reinstated after being disbanded. It will be interesting to see how they navigate this new phase of their relationship, especially while working as teammates.
Chicago P.D. stars Patrick John Flueger as Officer Adam Ruzek and Marina Squerciati as Detective Kim Burgess. The rest of the cast includes LaRoyce Hawkins as Officer Kevin Atwater, Amy Morton as Sergeant Gertrude "Trudy" Platt, Benjamin Levy Aguilar as Officer Dante Torres, and Arienne Mandi as Officer Eva Imani.
