Chicago P.D. Season 12 has aired its action-packed finale. Following the surprising events of the previous episode, things looked grim for the 21st District team as Deputy Chief Reid suspended the Intelligence Unit. The finale featured several twists and turns as the team tried to find ways to bounce back. When no other scheme worked, Voight decided to take matters into his own hands and made an unexpected plan to get rid of Reid once and for all.

Meanwhile, the episode, titled Vows, also featured a long-awaited moment as Burgess and Ruzek, aka ‘Burzek’, finally tied the knot after years of facing hardships together. Here is all you need to know about the ending of Chicago P.D. Season 12.

Chicago P.D. Season 12 finale ending explained: Reid’s terror comes to an end

The Intelligence unit is under serious threat after Deputy Chief Reid announces its suspension on live TV. He even strips the team of their powers. In the previous episode, it was revealed that Reid was not an honorable man, instead, he had been helping drug dealers and using his power to control and threaten others.

As things look worse than ever for the team, Voight seems a little different. He takes longer to act, listens to his team, and tries to find a way to tackle Reid. But when every plan fails and the only witness against the Deputy Chief is killed, Voight does the unthinkable.

He gives Rennie Otero—the son of a man Reid had killed—Reid’s location. Rennie shoots and kills Reid, putting an end to the Deputy Chief’s crimes.

After years of ups and downs, Kim Burgess and Adam Ruzek finally tie the knot in the Chicago P.D. Season 12 finale. The two have been through so much together, from breakups to raising their daughter Makayla, and this moment feels like a well-deserved fresh start for them.

To make the occasion even more special, Adam’s dad attends the wedding despite his health issues. Meanwhile, Kevin Atwater stands beside Adam as his best man. Although the episode doesn’t include their vows, Kim walking down the aisle with Makayla makes it a truly memorable scene.

Chicago P.D. Season 12 finale ending explained: The team is saved

With Reid dead, Rennie tells investigators about the drug ring Reid was part of and how his father was murdered. With Reid unable to defend himself, the case against him holds. This saves the Intelligence unit. Burgess gets her badge back, Torres is released, and the team reunites at the wedding.

However, Voight’s actions come with consequences. Chapman figures out what he did and confronts him. She reminds him of the man he once wanted to be, someone who believed there could be more than just darkness. Hence, while the team is finally safe, Voight seems to be a changed man, which could affect his relationship with Chapman.
