It's been years since a feature-length Community film was announced for Peacock. The beloved NBC sitcom ran for six seasons, from 2009 to 2014.

Although there have been no recent positive updates about the movie, star Alison Brie shared a concerning update. Brie, who was recently at the San Diego Comic-Con to promote her new movie, Together, shared this concerning news with ScreenRant:

"I truly have nothing to say about the Community movie. It's sort of paused, and we're all -- I know the cast is really rooting for it. We all love each other so much and would love to get back on set someday."

While it looks like the cast is keen on a reunion, the project is indefinitely 'paused'. The news is surely disappointing for the sitcom's loyal fans, who have been anticipating the movie for a long time, but Brie's comments suggest that the project will not reach our screens anytime soon.

The sitcom, set in Greendale Community College in Colorado, follows Jeff Winger, who is recently disbarred and suspended from his law firm. Since he lied about having a bachelor's degree, he enrolls at the titular college to earn a legitimate degree.

Alison Brie played the character of Annie Edison, the youngest and least popular member of the group. Annie was a compulsive overachiever who was comparatively innocent than the rest.

More on this in our story.

What have other cast members said about Community: The Movie?

Alison Brie's comments suggest that the chances of a Community reunion are slimming with each passing day. However, the cast of the sitcom has shown genuine interest in returning for the movie.

Actor Joel McHale, who played the lead role of Jeff Winger, was positive about the Community movie in an interview with ScreenRant. He even expressed his wish for a reboot spin-off series, depending on the success of the movie. Here's what he said:

"I think there are some of us that would love to keep going, and I would be like, 'Great, if you guys want to do episodes, let us know,'" I think that'll probably depend on the success of a movie, but I think if there's enough of a demand to do more. I don't know what it would look like, but obviously the movie would have to inform a lot of that."

He added:

"I'm game, and I know a few others are game...I'm not going to tell you who, but I would definitely do [more], they are always like, 'Oh, a limited series!' I would totally be up for it."

McHale's comments instilled a lot of positivity in fans, and they were hopeful that there would surely be updates on the future of the sitcom. Considering the trend of bringing back classic shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a Community reboot limited series is not surprising.

In addition to Alison Brie and Joel McHale, the sitcom's ensemble included Donald Glover, Danny Pudi, Jim Rash, Gillian Jacobs, Ken Jeong and Yvette Nicole Brown.
