Paramount+'s crime drama series MobLand might be setting up for the Harrigan family's downfall at the hands of its patriarch, Conrad Harrigan.
While Conrad claims to be a family man and the protector of his wife and children, his ignorance towards them is visible. His constant favoritism for the Harrigan top capo, Harry Da Souza, might fracture his relationship with his son Kevin.
A strong man himself, Conrad is more impressed with Harry than his own children, which might lead them to a dangerous path. As seen in MobLand Episode 5, Brendan and Seraphina planned to start an illegal business, as that might earn them their father's attention.
If Conrad doesn't start paying attention to his children, he might cause problems for the Harrigans and result in their downfall.
More on Conrad's ignorance in MobLand in our story.
Brendan and Seraphina's dangerous alliance in MobLand Episode 5 could bring problems for the Harrigans
Conrad is not only an absent father for Brendan and Seraphina, but his dismissive attitude towards his children caused an unlikely and dangerous alliance between the two in Episode 5.
After Brendan realised he was left out of the family summit meeting on the Harrigan Estate and Conrad didn't even feel the need to include his son in an important decision, he lost his calm and went to his half-sister Seraphina with a proposal.
Since Seraphina is an upscale London jeweler, Brendan suggested they set up a rare gem smuggling business behind their father's back and prove they are just as capable as Conrad and Kevin.
Conrad's constant ignorance of Brendan finally led him to take this bold step and prove that he is also a Harrigan and just as worthy. But since Brendan is the weakest link in his family and lacks the qualities to be Conrad's successor, his illegal business might get the Harrigans in trouble.
The Harrigans are already just one step away from a full-blown war with the Stevensons in MobLand. With the local authorities already on their heels, Brendan and Seraphina's latest alliance might cause their downfall and seal their fate forever.
Kevin's personal struggles add to Conrad's failure as a father
While Brendan and Seraphina's alliance might be the beginning of the end for the Harrigans in MobLand, Kevin is struggling with his own demons.
While Kevin is a much better candidate to succeed his father's business than Brendan, he is haunted by his past in prison. MobLand is expanding on Kevin's past, where he suffered physical and emotional abuse in prison. He still hasn't dealt with the traumas he faced there because of the false notions of masculinity set by his father.
Not only is Conrad an ignorant father to Kevin's struggles, but his tough image also prevents Kevin from being weak in front of him. Conrad's constant favoritism of Harry against his own son has made Kevin suppress his feelings, and he is a ticking time bomb, waiting to explode.
Even if Kevin magically opens up before his father, one cannot expect Conrad to sympathize with him. In fact, given his character and nature in MobLand, he will likely mock his son for not being man enough.
Kevin's suppressed feelings are likely bubbling up, and he is just one episode away from having a mental breakdown and potentially doing more damage to the Harrigan family.
