Could Girl Taken get a second season? Speculations explored

Paramount’s latest thriller, Girl Taken, is here. It follows the twisted abduction case of a teen girl by her school teacher. It taps into trauma, resilience, revenge, and family dynamics. It is based on Holly Overton’s 2016 novel, Baby Doll.

At the centre of the series is the loving Riser family, which consists of twin sisters Abby and Lily and their single mother, Eva. However, their lives changed forever when Lily was kidnapped by her high school teacher, Rick Hansen. He tortures her both physically and mentally. After five years, she manages to escape and returns to her family. But just when things seem to go right, Rick escapes from the courthouse, and Abby takes a step that might change her future forever. Before we roll into what happens in the end, let’s find out whether Girl Taken is renewed for Season 2 or not.

Will Girl Taken Season 2 happen?

As of now, Paramount+ has yet to decide the renewal or cancellation of Girl Taken Season 2. The show has received a lukewarm response from critics and audiences. However, these are early reviews, and they are bound to change with time. It has secured 6 stars out of 10.

A series renewal or cancellation depends on a number of factors. For instance, series with better reviews and viewership have a higher chance of renewal. Additionally, cast availability and production costs also play a major role. Honestly, there are quite slim chances for the renewal of Girl Taken, and here’s why.

Firstly, the finale has tied up all the loose ends. For instance, Rick is dead. Maybe not the way that some viewers, or even Tommy, would have wanted it to be, but it’s the end of him. Out of revenge, Abby stabbed his neck and killed him. Tommy wanted Rick to rot in jail, but justice was served in the end. Tommy, on the other hand, saved Abby from going to prison for murder by framing the case as an act of self-defence. In the end, they also found Isabella’s remains. Rick also abducted Isabella in the same fashion as Lily and killed her. This puts an end to a long-standing cold case.

Abby was pregnant with Wes’s babies. Even though it was a shock for Lily, she understood that during the search for her, Abby and Wes grew closer, and they fell in love. She forgave Abby.

Lily also reunited with her daughter, Alice. Thus, almost all the characters did get a stable ending, with no major cliffhangers. Secondly, the series is based on a novel, yet the storyline is limited and cannot be expanded solely on the basis of the book. Keeping that in mind, the series could still expand with a fresh new season, but for that, the writers would need to explore other sources. Apart from that, Rick’s partner Zoe’s life wasn’t explored much in Season 1, so that could be one of the potential plotlines.
