Coven Academy: Everything we know so far about the upcoming Disney supernatural series

Disney has announced a new series, Coven Academy, which seems to be the perfect blend of teen drama and supernatural elements. The show revolves around a trio of teen witches who are undergoing training in magic.

They have to protect their city of New Orleans against some supernatural threats, while also dealing with routine young-adult issues like heartbreaks, friendships, and relationships. The show is being created by Tim Federle, who previously made High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.

The show is set to feature a stellar cast, including the likes of Malina Weissman, Malachi Barton, and Louis Thresher. If you are excited about the show, here are all the updates we have about Coven Academy so far.

Is there a release date for Coven Academy?

Coven Academy is going to premiere on Disney Channel and Disney+ in 2026. However, the exact release date remains to be announced. The show was given a pilot order in March 2025, which was shot in June. In August 2025, Disney Branded Television officially greenlit the series while announcing the cast.

What is the plot of Coven Academy?

The show is set in New Orleans, where a coven of witches is undergoing magical training. Meanwhile, they are tasked with protecting the city and its people from some ancient supernatural forces. While carrying out their magical duties, the group also has to deal with the challenges of growing up. The official logline of the show reads:

“Set against the moody backdrop of New Orleans, Coven Academy follows a trio of teenage witches-in-training who are bound by destiny to guard their city against dangerous, ancient forces. Between unraveling dark secrets, mastering volatile magic, and facing off against distractingly cute rivals, they must also navigate the heartbreaks and deep bonds that come with growing up.”

Who is in the cast and crew of Coven Academy?

A Series of Unfortunate Events actress Malina Weissman will play Briar in the series, Stuck in the Middle actor Malachi Barton will star as Jake, and Boarders actor Louis Thresher will appear as Ollie.

Tiffani Thiessen, known for starring in White Collar, will play Miss Graves; Jordan Leftwich, famous for her role in Loot, will star as Sasha; and Ora Duplass will portray Tegan, marking her first major television role. The rest of the cast includes Keegan Connor Tracy as Tamora, Swayam Bhatia as McKenna, and Brendon Tremblay as Alexander.

Tim Federle has written and executive-produced the show. He previously created High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. He is currently also working on Disney’s Vampirina: Teenage Vampire. The rest of the executive producers include Bronwyn North-Reist, Kimberly McCullough, and Matthew Chipera. Talking about the project, Federle said in his official statement:
