Netflix's globally acclaimed sci-fi series, Stranger Things franchise, is going to expand with the upcoming animated show Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 as a spin-off rather than a continuation. The story will take place in the small town of Hawkins, Indiana during 1985.

This is exactly the time between Season 2 and 3 of the original TV series created by the Duffer Brothers. And since this show is part of the big franchise, many fans might wonder if the original cast will return for this as well.

Recently, Ross Duffer confirmed that Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 will not include the original cast. The animated show will show younger versions of Eleven, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, and others, but the voices will be new actors, not the live-action stars.

In the live action, the story of the titular group in Hawkins will finally come to an end. The animated series will focus on the gap between Season 2 and 3, making the story even more engaging for viewers.

Stranger Things creator Ross Duffer offered insights into what the upcoming animated show, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 is going to be like. Not only this, but the creator also explained what fans shouldn't expect, like the return of the original cast. This means that the new series, also described as the spin-off, has new voice actors who will take on the roles of Eleven, Lucas, Mike, and others.

Ross Duffer said:

"The cartoon goes back and fills in a six-month gap that we weren’t able to explore. It’s fun because you get to see them as little kids again, but it’s not really again."

The creator also explained that there's no chance of the main group returning. The brothers added:

"This really is the end of the story of Eleven and Mike and Lucas and Dustin and Steve and all these characters, and Hawkins specifically."

The trailer for Season 5 is out, and fans are scared for their favorite characters' fates, especially Steve. However, the creators didn't shed light on Steve in this latest interview and shared views on Stranger Things: Tales From ’85.

If you're looking for the release date for Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, then note that Netflix hasn't announced it yet. However, we do know that it's coming out in 2026. Additionally, it will feature the events that occurred between Season 2 and 3 of Stranger Things that the Duffer Brothers didn't explore in the show.

Eleven and her group will find themselves facing a new paranormal mystery that once again threatens their town. Strange creatures and supernatural events will take center stage and they must do everything to save Hawkins.

Although the animated format gives it a slightly different tone, the story maintains the same mix of suspense, friendship, and nostalgic 1980s atmosphere that made the original series such a hit. The title itself highlights its connection to the events of Stranger Things 3, which also took place that same year.
