Cursed cast and character guide: Who plays whom in the Netflix show

The Netflix fantasy series, Cursed, brings the popular tales of the Arthurian legend as witnessed by the young sorceress named Nimue, played by Katherine Langford. Nimue would later becomes the Lady of the Lake, and the face of the rebellion against King Uther and the Red Paladins.

The premise, according to Wikipedia, is:

"A re-imagining of the Arthurian legend, told through the eyes of Nimue, a young heroine with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake. After her mother's death, she finds an unexpected partner in Arthur, a young mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword to him."

It continues:

"Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins and their complicit King Uther."

1) Katherine Langford as Nimue

The Australian actress became a household name after appearing in the acclaimed series, 13 Reasons Why, which fetched her a Golden Globe nomination. She was also seen in films such as Knives Out and Love, Simon.

In Netflix's Cursed, Langford's Nimue goes on a quest to find Merlin and give him the Sword of Power. On the difficult journey she encounters numerous terrifying situations, and also discovers mysterious secrets about her lineage. Nimue’s courage and perseverance, to save her people from the fanatics, the Red Paladins, and King Uther, makes her one of the best female warrior characters in fantasy series.

2) Gustaf Skarsgård as Merlin

If you are aware of the Arthurian legend, you would be aware that Merlin is one of the most important characters in the lore. In Cursed, Merlin is played by one of the Skarsgård brothers — Gustaf — and is characterised as a powerful magician who has lost his powers due to the Sword of Power, and wants to destroy it once and for all because he thinks it contains evil powers.

Other than Cursed, the Swedish actor has appeared in popular series such as Vikings and Westworld. He also appeared as the German-American Physicist Hans Bethe in the Oscar-winning film, Oppenheimer.

3) Devon Terrell as Arthur

Devon Terrell portrays a young Arthur, who is not the king from the Arthurian lore but a mercenary in Cursed. He is also the love interest of Langford’s Nimue. Aside from Cursed, the Australian actor is known for portraying former US President Barack Obama in the biographical film, Barry.

Terrell's Arthur is grappling with numerous issues and trying to find himself. While accompanying Nimue in her adventurous yet dangerous quest, Arthur finds the true purpose of life, and also gives us some heartwarming moments of friendship as Nimue and Arthur grow closer.

4) Daniel Sharman as The Weeping Monk

The English actor is not an unknown name when it comes to fantasy shows as he has appeared in shows such as Teen Wolf and The Originals. He is widely known for portraying the crazy Troy Otto in Fear the Walking Dead. Sherman has also appeared as Lorenzo de' Medici in the historical series Medici: The Magnificent.

In Cursed, he plays the Weeping Monk, a ruthless assassin who helps the fanatics find the Fey and kill them. However, we gradually discover his character is more complex, beyond merely being the deadliest killer in the army of the humans against the Fey.

5) Shalom Brune-Franklin as Sister Igraine

The Netflix series has changed the character of Igraine. In the lore, Igraine is the mother of King Arthur, but in Cursed, she is one of the few supporters of Nimue, who wants her to yield the sword and take part in the war started by the Paladins, to wipe out the Fey from the face of the Earth.

The British-Australian actress is known for her work on the stage, having acted in plays such as Macbeth and Blood Wedding. She has also appeared in shows like Doctor Doctor, Line of Duty, and Baby Reindeer.

6) Sebastian Armesto as King Uther

Another re-imagined character in the series is King Uther Pendragon, who used Merlin for his magic but discarded him on finding out he doesn’t have magical powers anymore. He sought counsel from his mother, which resulted in conflicts. He is also one of the characters who wanted to own the Sword of Power for their benefit.

Aside from appearing in Cursed, Armesto is also known for his roles in popular Hollywood films such as Marie Antoinette, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The English actor has also many popular TV shows in his filmography, such as The Tudors, Poldark, and the critically acclaimed Broadchurch.

7) Peter Mullan as Father Carden

Peter Mullan portrays the cynical Father Carden, one of the main villains of Cursed. The leader of the Paladins, father Carden is the one who has starts the war between the humans and the Fey, deeming the latter as dangerous beings and creating fear and doubt against them among humans. He is also using a Fey, Sherman's Weeping Monk, to wipe them out.

The Scottish actor is celebrated for his roles in numerous films and TV shows including The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Braveheart, Westworld, and Ozark, among others.
