Carmela Knight was thought to be killed in a fire accident as shown in Dateline
Carmela Knight lived at her Pebblestone Crescent residence, which was owned both by her and David Knight, her husband. With their two sons, they were a family of four. However, the family was soon going to be broken as Carmela was seeking a divorce.
The reason behind the same was David’s extra marital affair that Carmela found out about and while the couple tried marriage counselling to give their family another chance, it did not work out and by June 2014, Carmela was certain of her decision regarding the divorce.
Carmela, who was 39 years old then, was ready for a better life after leaving David and taking custody of their two sons. However, fate had other plans and on September 15, 2014, after authorities arrived at the Knights’ residence following a 9-1-1 call, they saw that the house was on fire. After they put the fire out, Carmela’s body was found in the garage and it became evident that the fire was not the cause of her death.
Her autopsy confirmed the same as she had suffered blunt force trauma to her face. Moreover, investigation also revealed that the fire was not the result of an accident and was started by someone deliberately. A syringe with cocaine was also found at the scene, which hinted at Carmela dying as a result of overdosing.

Investigation revealed that David had killed Carmela
As police started with the investigation, it came to light that David was bitter regarding the divorce that Carmela was so sure of getting. Given that David was having an extra marital affair that he did not break off even when he promised that he would, police naturally started to look into him and that is when it became clear that David was behind Carmela's murder.
The police eventually found Graham MacDonald, the man who was David’s accomplice in Carmela’s murder. After conducting a thorough undercover operation on Graham, authorities were finally successful in making him confess to the crime. He also mentioned that David had promised him a monetary reward of $100,000 for killing Carmela and it was Graham who had set the house on fire.
Moreover, Graham also confessed that the syringe with cocaine was also part of the plan so that it would seem that Carmela was using drugs before she died. Eventually both David and Graham were arrested and it was also revealed that David was all set to start a new life with his lover in Florida after he murdered his wife.
After their separate trials, David and Graham were both given life sentences as they both actively planned and carried out Carmela’s murder.
