Hailing originally from Brooklyn, New York, Peggy had a good life, both personally and professionally. Her husband, Robert Nadell, passed away in 2003, and the two had two children together, James and Susanne. Peggy worked at IBM, and after retiring, she dedicated her life to activism and movements associated with Women's Rights. She was also an active member of the Democratic Party.

Peggy’s helping nature and personality made her popular in her community, and she was both loved and respected. Since her husband died, she lived alone, and after not hearing from her mother for a while, Peggy’s daughter Susanne decided to check up on her.

On January 25, 2014, as Suanne reached Peggy’s place, she found her mother’s lifeless body at the foot of the steps leading to the entrance of the house. She was stabbed in the chest, bludgeoned, and strangled. The violent nature of the murder started an investigation, which led to shocking findings.

Who murdered Peggy?

As police started the investigation, it became clear that there was no forced entry into Peggy’s house, which meant that someone known to Peggy was involved in the crime. Initially, as the Dateline episode showed, the investigators could not trace someone within Peggy’s known circle who would want her dead.

However, after finding specific evidence, they started investigating Diana Nadell, Peggy’s daughter-in-law, who was married to her son James. The couple had two children, and it came to light that Diana tried to extort money from Peggy when she wanted to see her grandchildren.

Peggy’s daughter, Sussane, also told police that Diana refused to let Peggy meet the kids if she did not pay her, and since Peggy loved her grandchildren, the extortion went on. In light of the new information, the police soon uncovered how Diana plotted Peggy’s murder.

She went on to involve a relative named Otis Grant, and the two then hired Andrea Benson, with whom Diana went on to murder Peggy. The two reached Peggy’s residence, and after she had let them inside the house, Andrea attacked Peggy as Diana hit her head and stabbed her, leading to her death.

Dateline can be streamed on Peacock.
