More about DC’s Lanterns series

Scenes starring Ulrich Thomsen's character, the villain Sinestro, have been completed for the upcoming DC Universe series Lanterns. HBO expects to premiere the series in early 2026. Sinestro makes his live-action debut in the DC Universe through this show.

Ulrich Thomsen shared a photo on social media showing his half-shaved mustache, teasing his transformation into Sinestro. He captioned the post:

ā€œBye for now #sinestro – I’ll keep one side for later. Hope to see you again.ā€

According to this message, Sinestro may make a reappearance in future seasons or DC projects. According to rumors, the principal shooting for the show has completed, bringing the series' filming to an end.

Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), two Green Lanterns (intergalactic law enforcement officials), are major characters in the series. They collaborate to investigate a nasty and convoluted murder case in a small American heartland town. The program combines elements of investigative drama and science fiction to create a realistic yet fascinating narrative. The creators' target demographic includes both new viewers and longtime DC fans.

Alongside Thomsen, the ensemble includes well-known performers including Kelly Macdonald, who plays Sheriff Kerry, and Nathan Fillion, who plays Guy Gardner. Other important parts are played by Poorna Jagannathan and Garret Dillahunt.

The series does not overlook the Green Lantern characters' space-faring beginnings, even if a large portion of the plot takes place on Earth. According to director James Hawes, the program strikes a mix between thrilling science fiction elements and a realistic mystery, making it easy for novice viewers to follow the plot while satisfying comic book lovers.

Eight episodes will make up the series, which will debut on HBO and HBO Max in early 2026. James Hawes is the director of the first two episodes, while different directors are in charge of the others.

Lanterns is looking like a fantastic new addition to the DC Universe now that production is finished. An exciting and unique interpretation of the Green Lantern story is anticipated because of the combination of a compelling mystery, a superb cast, and well-known superhero characters. Fans can anticipate a distinctive blend of action, drama, and science fiction when the series premieres next year.
