As Ahsoka gears up for its second season on Disney+, fans of the Star Wars universe have reason to celebrate as General Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) is set to take on a bigger role in Season 2.
The Rebel leader served largely as a stabilizing presence in Season 1 and remained a veteran of the Rebellion who navigated political and military responsibilities from the shadows. However, it's finally time for Hera Syndulla to actively participate in Ahsoka's quest to take down Admiral Thrawn.
Ahsoka Season 1 marked the live-action debut of Hera Syndulla, a beloved character from the Star Wars franchise, who was earlier featured in animated series Star Wars Rebels, The Freemaker Adventures, The Bad Batch and Forces of Destiny.

Hera Syndulla will have an expanded role in Ahsoka Season 2
Mary Elizabeth Winstead shared an exciting update about her beloved character in Season 2. Collider caught the actress on the red carpet premiere of her upcoming horror-thriller film The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, where she shared this news with her fans.
The actress said:
“You know I'm not sure what I can say other than I'm in this season a bit more, which is fun. I'm definitely in on the action quite a bit more, which was great to have.''
She added:
''So yeah I honestly I'm not gonna say much more than that, just because I've not [been] given my guidelines yet. So I'm gonna leave it at that. But it was so much fun. I just finished it, and it was an absolute blast. I loved every minute of it. So I can't wait for people to see it.”
As the widowed lover of Jedi knight Kanan Jarrus and the Twi'lek daughter of Ryloth freedom fighter Cham Syndulla, Hera was an important figure in the rebellion against the Galactic Empire, who even led a small rebel group on the Planet of Lothal.
We caught Hera Syndulla right in the middle of the action in Ahsoka Season 2, as she is trying to stop the rise of Grand Admiral Thrawn. She acted bravely and took an active part in the action, but her character was still sidelined for the larger narrative.
However, Mary Elizabeth Winstead's recent comments suggest that the beloved Twi’lek pilot will finally step out of the background and take a more active part in the series’ main conflicts. With the confirmation that she’ll be “in on the action” much more, fans can expect to see her transition from a strategist behind the scenes to a frontline commander. This could mean more flight sequences and greater involvement in Ahsoka’s mission to track down Thrawn.
The recent hints from Winstead also suggest that Hera will be far more central to the story in Ahsoka Season 2 and will step into the action in a way that could reshape her arc within the New Republic era.
While there is no confirmed release date for the sophomore season yet, actors are slowly wrapping up their schedules and positive news might follow soon. With the upcoming Star Wars spin-off film The Mandalorian and Grogu, fans can only expect Ahsoka to drop Season 2 in 2026 (after the movie).
Season 1 is streaming on Disney+.
