British filmmaker James Bobin will return to directing duties in Disney+'s Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3, the popular fantasy adventure series based on Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson books.

The renowned filmmaker and writer, who directed the premiere episodes in the freshman season and the ongoing Season 2, will return to direct the initial two episodes in Season 3.

In a recent interview with Collider, James Bobin revealed that his tradition to direct the first two episodes will continue in the third season as well, which was renewed by Disney+ even before the second season's premiere. The director said:

“If I’m ever around, I’ll definitely do it. I love this show.''

Percy Jackson and the Olympians follows the coming-of-age saga of the twelve-year-old Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell), who learns about his secretive demigod identity and begins a string of adventures in Camp Half-Blood with his loyal fellow demigod friends, Grover (Aryan Simhadri) and Annabeth (Leah Sava Jeffries).

More on this in our story.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians' OG director James Bobin will return in Season 3

Seasoned Percy Jackson fans will be thrilled to learn that James Bobin will return to his directorial duties in the first two episodes of Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3. In addition to being an executive producer, James Bobin has directed the first two entries in both of the previously released seasons.

In his recent interview with Collider, Bobin expressed his desire to return as director for the initial episodes, which he believes are the entry points for audiences into the fictional universe. James Bobin noted:

“One and two [episodes] are so important, because people who are new to it will decide whether to keep going or not from this. “I’m always very keen to be involved in the beginning. To set the tone and the pace and the world, and the sense of place. That’s really important to me.”

Be it the magical Camp Half-Blood from the freshman season or the much-awaited chariot race from the recently released Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2, James Bobin has contributed to bringing some of the most important sequences from Rick Riordan's fantastical books.

While Bobin's filmography comprises fantastical and children's adventure works like The Muppets (2011), Muppets Most Wanted (2014), Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019) and Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016), the Percy Jackson series holds a special place in his heart.

James Bobin further added that he keeps returning to direct Percy Jackson and the Olympians because of his children's fondness for the books, which is a cherished memory for the director:

“This show is very important to me. I know a lot about this world, so I’m very keen to keep that going...I build places and worlds and ideas, and then hopefully you think that’s a fun place to spend an hour of my time.''

What will Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3 be about?

The upcoming season in the fantastical franchise will adapt Riordan's 2007 novel The Titan's Curse, the third book in the franchise. The plot follows Percy as he undertakes another harrowing journey to rescue his demigod friend Annabeth Chase and the Greek goddess Artemis, who have been kidnapped by Titan Atlas.

In December 2025, it was announced that Mindhunter fame actor Holt McCallany has been reeled in to play the larger-than-life Titan Atlas in Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 3. Titan Atlas is one of the most popular figures in Greek Mythology, who was condemned by Zeus to hold up the heavens for eternity after the last ten-year war fought between the Titans and the Olympians.

In addition to Holt McCallany, the upcoming season has also added David Costabile in the recurring character of Dr. Thorn and Jesse L. Martin in the guest character of Annabeth's mortal father, Frederick Chase.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 releases weekly episodes on Disney+ every Wednesday.
