The following article contains spoilers.

Dexter missed his sister’s volleyball game in Dexter: Original Sin Episode 1

Dexter: Original Sin Episode 1 ties Deb, Dexter’s sister to his killings in an uncanny way. While Dexter promised his sister that he would attend her volleyball game as Harry could not because of suffering a heart attack, he could not keep his promise.

While Deb was at her game, Dexter went ahead to kill Nurse Mary, his first-ever victim, making him miss Deb’s match. It’s interesting because, in the original series, Dexter promised he would stop killing after Deb died because of it. Dexter: Original Sin thus establishes how it all started with Dexter letting down Deb to get his first victim.

In Dexter: New Blood, it was not possible for Dexter to quit killing despite his promising to do so in the original series. However, in that sequel show, Deb is shown to be haunting him throughout the time, making her an inseparable part of his serial killings.

Deb does not let Dexter down in Dexter: Original Sin Episode 1

One thing that Dexter had established was that Deb deeply loved her brother and would do anything for him. Dexter: Original Sin emphasizes that idea when Deb shows up for Dexter despite the latter missing her game.

Initially, in episode 1, it seems that Deb really does not like Dexter and considers him to be weird. Like any other teenager, she wants to have a normal teenage life full of fun and adventures but unfortunately, Dexter’s strange behaviors make that difficult for her.

The opening episode of season 1 of Dexter: Original Sin shows Deb throwing a lot of tantrums and cursing since Harry made it clear that Deb can only go to a certain party if she takes Dexter along with her. She believes that taking her brother with her will dampen her chances of having any kind of normal fun.

However, bringing Dexter to the party proves to be useful eventually because he saves her from being sexually assaulted by Andy, a friend of Deb. Dexter beats him up badly and almost kills him when he sees a knife lying nearby. He is stopped by Deb on time who initially yells at him but ultimately thanks him for saving her life.

After this, as the episode progresses, it becomes clear that Deb’s love for Dexter is unconditional. When she shows up for him at the end of the first episode, it establishes the relationship between them that the original show follows.
