Another haunting saga in Dexter Morgan's life came to an explosive and bloody conclusion as Paramount+ released the Dexter: Resurrection finale.
And Justice for All... was a haunting hour for our infamous serial killer, who was trapped with Angel Batista's dead body in Leon Prater's vault, the last time we saw him in the penultimate episode.
While Prater planned on trapping Dexter inside his vault without food and water, he completely forgot about Batista's cell phone, which practically saved Dexter's life. Ironically, Angel Batista's phone literally saved Dexter's life as he called Harrison, who immediately arrived at Leon Prater's gala to rescue his father.
Equal parts drama and equal parts tragedy, the Dexter: Resurrection finale also featured harrowing hallucinations in the vault, a chopped-off thumb, and a worthy successor to Dexter Morgan. As Dexter awaited in the vault like a damsel in distress, he had visions about Harry and Brian Moser, who reminded him of his Code.
Here is the complete Dexter: Resurrection ending explained.
Dexter: Resurrection finale sets Harrison as his father's successor
Harrison was the true unsung hero of the Dexter: Resurrection finale, who quickly showed up at Prater's mansion after Dexter called him from Batista's phone. Nobody even suspected Harrison's presence at the Gala, as he was earlier offered to help, but declined.
While Dexter searched through Prater's plethora of documents (for the vault's eight-digit code), he instructed Harrison on FaceTime, who finally managed to navigate his way to his father.
Now, all Harrison had to do was to put the correct eight-digit code in the vault, or trigger the police alarm and Prater. But before he could begin this difficult task, Charley showed up and was about to kill Harrison, when Dexter bluffed that Prater also had a file on Charley as leverage. She left the father-son duo to confront her boss, following which she eventually quit, and was headed 'home' the last time we saw her in the finale.
Coming back to the vault, after Dexter finally figured out the eight-digit code, which was the prison number of Prater’s idolized killer. Harrison masterfully opened the vault and rescued his father. The father-son duo carefully decided to make their way out of the mansion, but were ultimately spotted by Prater, who took Harrison at gunpoint.
Leon Prater ended up on Dexter's kill table in the Dexter: Resurrection finale
Leon Prater lured Dexter upstairs while keeping his son at gunpoint. After Dexter reminded his son about the 'protection' he slipped him two episodes ago, Harrison took out his father's signature needle from his pocket and put Prater into a deep sleep. The protection (initially thought to be for Harrison's girlfriend) was a nice twist, which finally brought Dexter: Resurrection to its most anticipated moment in the making- Leon Prater on Dexter's kill table.
Our infamous serial killer set up a special kill table for Leon Prater in the vault (talk about poetic justice) and killed him with one of the knives present in the room. After safely keeping Prater's thumb to unlock the door to the mansion, Dexter carefully chopped up Prater's body, stole his yacht, and dumped his body in the water, right in front of the Statue of Liberty.
In the final chilling moments of the Dexter: Resurrection finale, he admits to his son that he needs him as his strategic partner, confidante, and friend. The series concludes with a haunting future for Harrison, who just proved to his father that he is a worthy successor.
The finale loose ends: A tease for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2
Since Dexter: Resurrection has already been renewed for Season 2 (and Season 3), there were surely loose ends. Firstly, Dexter intentionally left Batista's body for the cops, with Prater's fingerprints on the gun. Since he deliberately set off the fire alarm in Prater's mansion, this will be an exciting cue for Quinn and the police to discover Batista's body.
Secondly, Dexter took all the files on him and other serial killers from Prater's vault, who will surely become his targets for Dexter: Resurrection Season 2. One confirmed target is the only surviving serial killer from Prater's club, AI, who escaped Dexter's clutches previously.
Lastly, the finale also revealed the identity of the New York Ripper killer, who was hinted at throughout this season. The boogeyman, whose killing spree ended eight years ago, also had a dedicated file for him in Prater's vault, titled Don Framt. While this name does not ring a bell for now, he could be someone Dexter has already met before and is now operating under a new name. The finale suggested that Don Framt will surely be a major part of Dexter's life in Season 2.
