Dexter: Resurrection returns with a question that's been burning ever since the New Blood finale: What happens when a man presumed dead stirs back to life?

The answer begins in a hospital room and ends with blood on the floor.... just not his. In Episode 1, Dexter emerges from a coma while his son Harrison walks dangerously close to the edge of his father's dark legacy. One man is recovering; the other may already be lost.

The result is a tense and violent reunion that sets the stage for Dexter: Resurrection, where neither man can escape what's coming.

Read the recap below:

Harrison’s deadly moment of choice at the Empire Hotel in Episode 1 of Dexter: Resurrection

New York City may be a place where people reinvent themselves, but for Harrison Morgan, hiding from the past isn't so simple. Now working as a concierge at the Grand Empire Hotel, he appears composed on the outside.

Polite. Efficient.

But one night changes everything.

After helping a charming hotel guest named Shauna find her way to a conference, Harrison later sees her this time slumped over and barely conscious, being led into a hotel room by a man who claims to be her husband. Something feels wrong.

That sinking feeling turns to dread when Harrison hears Shauna whisper, "No". Without hesitation, he kicks the door in and stops the attack in progress.

But what follows in the first episode of Dexter: Resurrection isn't just an act of self-defense. Harrison snaps. Haunted by the women Kurt Caldwell once preyed on, he kills the man in cold blood using a toilet tank lid. It's a brutal scene, and what comes next is even more revealing.

In a calm, focused haze, Harrison begins the cover-up. He carries Shauna back to safety, scrubs every corner of the room, wraps the body, and slices it into parts in the hotel's kitchen just as Dexter once taught him.

One drop of blood is left behind, and the next day, sanitation workers find what Harrison thought he'd buried. Just like that, his secret begins to unravel.

Dexter’s mind-bending recovery and a warning from the past

While Harrison descends into violence, Dexter: Resurrection has Dexter waking up literally from ten weeks in a coma. Still in a fragile state, he's visited in his dreams by ghosts of the past. Arthur Mitchell appears first, taunting him about the cycle of violence that continues through Harrison.

Arthur tells him,

"Sometimes we have to go through hell to achieve resurrection. You already know who you really are..."

Next comes Miguel Prado, who makes it clear that Dexter's urge to kill isn't noble, it's dangerous. And then, Harry Morgan returns with a message that cuts deeper than any knife: Harrison needs him.

Finally, Sgt. Doakes barges into the hallucination with a line that fans will recognize, saying "Surprise, motherf***er" before reminding Dexter that there's still a part of him worth saving.

These 'visions/hallucinations' in episode 1 of Dexter: Resurrection shake Dexter out of his sleep. His doctor informs him that the only reason he survived the shooting was the cold weather, which had slowed his body's decline. But the bigger surprise comes when the authorities explain he won't face charges. With Kurt Caldwell pinned as the killer back in Iron Lake, Dexter walks free.

Soon after, Angel Batista visits. He knows too much and wants answers about Debra's disappearance. Dexter admits he faked his death, claiming the storm took her. Angel doesn't push, and he just leaves Dexter with the unsettling line:

"Since you're alive, you're officially resurrected."

The body count rises, and the hunters arrive

As Dexter starts to rebuild his life in Dexter: Resurrection, trouble is already brewing in New York. The bags of dismembered body parts left behind by Harrison trigger a homicide investigation.

Detectives Claudette Wallace and Melvin Olivia take over the case, and Wallace immediately proves to be a sharp investigator. Her instincts kick in fast. She notices the matching drawstrings on the garbage bags and recovers the remaining parts quickly.

Meanwhile, Dexter overhears a nurse talking about a gruesome murder in the city where a man was cut into nine pieces, following an eerily familiar method. When Dexter realizes the victim was a known predator, someone who fits the code, the conclusion is obvious.

And now, Harrison is in trouble. Determined to reach his son before the police do, Dexter steals a dead patient's car keys and bolts from the hospital. As he hits the road, Batista arrives for another visit a little too late.

Just as things begin to spiral in episode 1 of Dexter: Resurrection, someone new enters the game. A mysterious woman (played by Uma Thurman) breaks into a hidden apartment and finds a disturbing collection of blood-marked driver's licenses. She adds an envelope and makes a call:

"The invitation has been delivered".

Whatever's coming, it isn't just about Dexter and Harrison anymore.

Dexter: Resurrection doesn't waste time. It throws us into the deep end, one man waking up, one man crossing a line, and both men inching closer to each other without knowing what the reunion might cost. The blood trail leads straight to Harrison, but Dexter, ever the tracker, is closing in fast.

With old enemies resurfacing and new threats creeping in, Episode 1 makes it clear: this isn't just a second chance. It's a ticking clock. And someone's about to run out of time.
