And Just Like That Season 3 sneaks in a familiar voice, well...a familiar text, if anything. Kim Cattrall's Samantha Jones doesn't actually return to the series in the flesh, but she's seen in Episode 5 with the help of a funny little text message.

Now, while fans were probably hoping for another on-screen cameo, they may be disappointed. The character still lives on in Sex and the City universe, just not on camera. Yes, Samantha does appear in And Just Like That Season 3, but this time, in spirit and with the same amount of sass.

Samantha Jones shows up in And Just Like That Season 3 just not in the way fans may have hoped

Samantha doesn't physically appear or pop up on FaceTime, but in And Just Like That Season 3, Episode 5, she's digitally present in the show.

It all starts when Carrie Bradshaw finds herself dealing with a moody new neighbor, Duncan Reeves, a British biographer who lives just beneath her Gramercy Park townhouse. The two don't exactly hit it off at first and he's not really a fan of her heels echoing through his ceiling.

Still curious, Carrie reaches out to the one person who might know something about this mysterious man: Samantha. From London, Samantha blurts out her thoughts in classic fashion.

When Carrie texts her;

"He's living under me..."

Samantha replies with a cheeky sexual innuendo:

"I wish he was under me."

It's the only moment Samantha pops up in And Just Like That Season 3 so far, and it's all through a brief text exchange. But that's the thing right? Samantha's still recognizable in The Sex and the City realm, even in short mentions. Showrunner Michael Patrick King told USA Today;

"In our minds, Samantha is always in the world..."

This short interaction in And Just Like That Season 3 may be the last we get this season, but it still hits different, doesn't it?

Not an on-screen comeback, but Samantha’s presence is still strong nonetheless

This isn't the first time Samantha has shown up without showing up. In And Just Like That Season 2, Kim Cattrall did agree to film a very brief cameo when Samantha called Carrie from the back seat of a car in what Michael King described as:

"...A drive-by; it was just a delight."

For that cameo, Cattrall filmed alone on a separate soundstage, without the rest of the cast. That moment was a nod to fans and a sweet reminder of the bond between the two women. But don't count on a full-fledged comeback.

King clarified that this season won't include more scenes or texts from Samantha. Her brief Season 3 appearance was more about maintaining continuity than signaling a return. King adds;

"Every little 'Sex and the City' Easter egg that we put in the show... it's just a little reference to the time gone by..."

While her role has moved away from the camera for this universe, the essence of Samantha i.e., a character who is sharp, flirty and witty still makes her way in, even if only for a few small and witty innuendos.

Kim Cattrall may not have physically appeared in And Just Like That Season 3, but Samantha Jones makes her way and walks into the scene. Even though her text message might be on screen for only a few seconds, it nonetheless reminds fans that the iconic publicist hasn't gone anywhere and she's just writing from another city.

It might not be a proper desired comeback, but it's a reminder that some characters never fully leave.
