Did Mama June lose custody of granddaughter Kaitlyn?

Mama June has been fighting a long and hard battle to win the custody of her granddaughter Kaitlyn. She is the child of Anna Cardwell, who passed on in December 2023, due to stage 4 adrenal carcinoma.

As for Kaitlyn, her daughter, Mama June says that Anna wanted to leave her with them, but then, Michael Cardwell entered the chat and is also fighting to get custody of her. Michael and Anna share a daughter together named Kylee, and he is not the biological father of Kaitlyn, however.

Explaining the whole thing to the fans, Mama June, in a clip released by People Magazine, said:

"Let me explain the court case to y’all. It is Michael, Anna’s ex, versus myself for custody of Kaitlyn. Even though Anna told all of us that she wanted Kaitlyn to stay with us, she never put it in writing or anything else."

She added:

"Michael is not Kaitlyn's biological father and we don’t know who honestly is. The only reason Michael’s able to go after me is because he paid for some of Kaitlyn's school, so under this new Georgia law, if you pay for a child, you can go for equity of care for that child. And custody.”

Has Mama June lost custody of Kaitlyn?

Mama June has been fighting for custody for a long time now, and it is still in the process. There is no confirmation yet, and we will get to see the updates in the future this season.

In the most recent episode, we see that they had a court date with Kaitlyn and Michael present, where the latter had brought in a lot of witnesses. This delayed the process to the next day, where they had to visit the court once again.

However, this time, Kaitlyn will finally be able to speak to the judge and express what she wants and where she wants to be with giving her a chance to explain.

As the group went to court the next day, the verdict was in; however, the episode ended on a cliffhanger.

Coming to Michael's side, he also explained why he is fighting for the custody of Kaitlyn, even though she is not his biological child. He days that since Anna's death, his stepdaughter, as well as daughter Kylee, were the two flames that kept him going. In a clip to People Magazine, he said:

"If I have any opportunity to kind of make their lives better, even if it's just a little bit, I'm going to do my best to do that. Because I know that's what Anna would have wanted. I've been in their lives for this long. There's no point in me leaving just because Anna's gone. Like I'm not, I'm not stepping out of the picture."
