Did the Peacemaker Season 2 sizzle reel confirm the new opening song? Speculations explored

DC released a behind-the-scenes sizzle reel from Peacemaker Season 2. This new video was released in conjunction with its panel at CCXP Mexico.

In the panel, fans were treated to behind-the-scenes (BTS) footage of the show that provided a glimpse of what things looked like while James Gunn and the actors were filming the fan-favorite HBO Max series.

The song used in this BTS footage is titled A Shot at Redemption, a single from the album Tearing Down the Walls created by the band H.E.A.T.

We already know that Do Ya Wanna Taste It, the song we heard in the opening of Season 1, will not be used as the introductory track for Peacemaker Season 2 episodes. This was confirmed by James Gunn at a February 2025 press event.

Is A Shot at Redemption the opening song of Peacemaker Season 2?

It has not yet been confirmed if the song will be used for Peacemaker Season 2. However, on May 26, 2025, Entertainment Weekly published an interview featuring James Gunn and John Cena where it was revealed that the new opening song and scene would be disclosed at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC), scheduled to be held between July 24 and 27, 2025.

Thus, we probably won't learn what the introductory song for Season 2 is until then. However, the song A Shot at Redemption could work because it applies to where Christopher Smith/Peacemaker is in this season of the HBO Max series. These lyrics can be heard in the footage:

"I've been hiding for far too long, seems like forever been singin' on this song."

The above words hint at how Chris has been hiding his guilt after killing Rick Flag Jr. in the last act of 2021's The Suicide Squad. We already know that the central antagonist of Peacemaker Season 2 is none other than Rick Flag Jr.'s father, Rick Flag Sr., who will be played again by Frank Grillo. We met a mourning Flag Sr. in Creature Commandos, where he was a seemingly reasonable man.

However, he also knows that Peacemaker killed his son, and he is not willing to let that go. A Shot at Redemption playing in the background hints that the consequence of killing Rick Flag Jr. will finally catch up with Christopher Smith in Peacemaker Season 2.

Do we know anything about the Peacemaker Season 2 song?

While we don't know the name of the song, showrunner James Gunn did tease at the February 2025 press conference that the opening song he has chosen would reflect the overall theme of Season 2 and Christopher Smith's character arc. DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran had this to say:

“Never heard the song, never heard the band, [but] it’s so good.”

In the Entertainment Weekly interview last week, James Gunn teased what we can expect in the introduction sequence of Season 2:

"I'll give you an exclusive: You get to see Eagly try to dance for the first time. So that's really something. He is not the best at it, but he tries to really join in the dance sequence at the end. He's got a little pose this time."
