We already know that Disney+'s Percy Jackson and the Olympians was renewed for a third season. The Disney+ series is the latest attempt at bringing author Rick Riordan's world to life, after two live-action movies in 2010 and 2013 respectively. The Disney+ series was marketed by Riordan and others involved as a more faithful adaptation of the books.
Now, Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2, which is adapting the second book, The Sea of Monsters, is gearing up for a December 2025 release. Recently, however, an update from executive producer Rebecca Riordan has fans concerned. She revealed that certain side characters in Camp Half-Blood have not been cast yet.
It is important that Disney cast some of these characters because they play an important role in the books the next three books.
Percy Jackson's uncast roles, explained
On May 18, 2025, a fan posted an image of nine side characters from the Percy Jackson franchise that they were excited to meet in the upcoming seasons 2 and 3 of the Disney+ series. These nine characters were:
- Nico Di Angelo
- Bianca Di Angelo
- Zoë Nightshade
- Apollo
- Rachel Elizabeth Dare
- Artemis
- Aphrodite
- Charles Beckendorf
- Silena Beauregard
To this post, the Threads account belonging to Mythomagic, Inc. responded:
"Need to remind readers that some side characters that have a more important role later or are always side characters you will not see in S3. Not saying which ones though. I always hold out hope but casting conventions are what they are and I can’t change the industry."
This answer had fans in a bit of a frenzy. However, it is important to note that some characters like Nico and Bianca Di Angelo, Artemis, Zoë Nightshade, Apollo, and Artemis will surely appear in the third season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians as they play an important role in the plot of the book it is adapting.
Furthermore, the Di Angelo siblings were even set up in the sixth episode inside the Lotus Hotel and Casino, as we hear Nico calling out for his sister. Thus, we know the twins will be seen in Season 3. That leaves us with Rachel Elizabeth Dare, Silena Beauregard, and Charles Beckendorf.
Why is it important to cast Silena Beauregard, Charles Beckendorf, and Rachel Elizabeth Dare?
Silena Beauregard and Charles Beckendorf were both introduced in the second book, The Sea of Monsters. Beckendorf is the son of Hephaestus, and he is the one who teaches Percy's half-brother Tyson about Metalworking. Then, it was in the fourth book, The Battle of the Labyrinth, that we meet Beckendorf again, where it is revealed that he is in a relationship with Silena, Aphrodite's daughter.
But it is not until 2009's The Last Olympian, the final book in the original series, that both Charles and Silena play pivotal roles in the overall plot of the Percy Jackson series. Failure to cast them in both seasons 2 and 3 reduces the importance of their role in the original series.
The same can be said for Rachel, too, who is briefly Percy's girlfriend and later is revealed to be an important mortal in the Riordan universe. Rachel is briefly introduced for a chapter in the third book, The Titan's Curse, where Percy and his gang visit the Hoover Dam.
While the people in the show might delay her debut to the fourth season, that's the most affordable delay, because she is imperative to the story of the fourth book.
How do you feel about some key characters in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians show remaining uncast?
