If you're a fan of the Afterlife With Archie comic book, then this update is for you: Disney+ is coming up with a series based on the same from Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Francesco Francavilla. Yes, you read that right.
Per Deadline, the upcoming series is considered a "script-to-series commitment," which means that the makers are confident about the show and are likely to move forward with a full season once the script is ready. Since Archie Comics are widely loved by fans, Sacasa himself will pen the script.
While the production is being handled by Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, both of which already have deals with the creators. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will also serve as the executive producer alongside Jimmy Gibbons and others through Muckle Man Productions, Berlanti Productions, and Archie Comics Studios.
Since the Afterlife With Archie series is currently in development under Disney+, nothing has been revealed about the main cast and potential release window. But considering the huge fanbase for the entire Archie comics, fans can expect some of the best talents to secure the leading roles.
Disney+ is working on the Afterlife With Archie series with Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa as the writer
Disney+ is all set to bring a dark twist to the Archie Comics universe through the Afterlife With Archie TV series. The series will reimagine the iconic town of Riverdale as a zombie-infested, apocalyptic nightmare.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is a versatile writer who writes across television, theatre, and comics. He came to prominence as a writer/producer of the television show Riverdale, which re-imagined the young characters of Archie Comics in a darker, more adult-oriented fashion.
Following Aguirre-Sacasa's work on Riverdale, he became Chief Creative Officer at Archie Comics in 2014, working on the establishment of Archie Horror. Some of the titles include Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Jughead: The Hunger, Vampironica, and Blossoms 666, all of which offered their own twist on horror, with all the charm and nostalgia of Archie.
And the Afterlife With Archie comic book turns the familiar, cheerful world of Riverdale into a dark, scary place full of zombies. The story kicks off when Sabrina Spellman, using a magical book called the Necronomicon, brings Jughead’s dog, Hot Dog, back to life.
But this spell goes horribly wrong and starts a zombie outbreak that spreads through the town. The story brings back the main and fan-adored characters Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and their other friends.
Unlike the traditional comics, these friends are forced to face extreme circumstances and tough decisions in Afterlife With Archie. The scenes in the comic book are packed with emotional struggles, violence, and creepy vibes.
And now, Disney+ is working to bring all of this in a brand new series, injecting curiosity and excitement among fans. As mentioned before, the project is in the development stage, and the makers have yet to confirm the cast members, release date, and other details.
