If you ever wondered about Super Why’s Comic Book Adventures going beyond the initial format, then don't miss out on this exciting update: It has been recently confirmed that PBS Kids, which began as bite-sized episodes, is now turning into a full half-hour series.
Yes, you read that right! Super Why’s Comic Book Adventures is getting a full series from PBS Kids, to be released in 2026. What's unique about this project is that, unlike other children's shows, this one addresses a big concern: kids facing reading problems, which results in underperformance.
So, this upcoming series will have a total of 39 episodes, specially designed for preschool and kindergarten audiences. The creative team behind the series includes Angela C. Santomero, Sarah Wallendjack, and Alex Breen, with Jill Cozza-Turner developing the project.
Sean Calligan is directing. The show is produced by 9 Story Media Group, which also controls global distribution and consumer products, while Brown Bag Films handles the animation.
PBS Kids to launch a new series of the Super Why’s Comic Book Adventures in 2026
As previously explained, Super Why’s Comic Book Adventures is being developed into a more engaging and thoughtful series for kids. The first run of Super Why! aired from 2007 until 2016, with over 100 episodes.
It created a whole identity around engaging young children in reading through the framework of superheroes and adventure. The new series still features original characters such as Super Why, Wonder Red, Princess Presto, and Alpha Pig, and includes the new hero, Power Paige.
The vice-president of production of Brown Bag Films mentioned that Super Why’s Comic Book Adventures has helped kids in "foundational reading skills and remains a valuable resource for parents." Coral Schou continued:
"We’re thrilled to introduce this latest ‘Super Why!’ series and help further support children’s early literacy development in ways that are fun and effective."
PBS Kids isn’t just stopping at the TV show. They’re adding extra materials to make the learning stick. Along with the episodes, they’re putting out four companion games and three digital storybooks. These aren’t just random add-ons. They’re designed to connect with what kids are already learning in the show.

Who are the characters and villains in the upcoming Super Why’s Comic Book Adventures series?
The main focus of the series is a new character called Power Paige. She’s introduced as a fresh "Super Reader" and becomes part of the team that fans already know: Super Why, Wonder Red, Princess Presto, and Alpha Pig.
Even though these older characters look a little different now to fit the new comic book style, their purpose hasn’t changed. Each one still uses their special skills to help kids with reading. It will prioritize things like understanding letters, breaking down word structures, and building vocabulary.
The antagonists, dubbed Literacy Villains, are especially clever:
The Eraser: He erases letters or words.
Mr. More: This villain overdoes things by adding extra letters or sounds.
The Shuffler: who jumbles the order of letters and sounds;
Outta Space: an alien who removes spaces or merges words.
This way, kids will be able to reunite with their favorite characters, face the villains, and meet new characters through the new series of Super Why’s Comic Book Adventures by PBS.
