Alien franchise fans are buzzing with excitement and counting down the days to Noah Hawley's series Alien: Earth, which will officially mark the sci-fi franchise's entry into live-action television. The prequel series is set two years before the events of Ridley Scott's inaugural Alien film.
This year also marks the revival of Alien's sister franchise, Predator (under director Dan Trachtenberg), which recently premiered the animated film Predator: Killer of Killers on Hulu and is gearing up for the theatrical release of Predator: Badlands in November.
With the resurgence of both the Alien and Predator franchises, anticipation about their crossover is now stronger than ever among fans. With the upcoming release of Alien: Earth on FX on August 12, is a crossover finally on the cards?
Here is what the showrunner and the cast revealed.
Is another Alien and Predator crossover possible? This is what the Alien: Earth showrunner revealed
While the Alien vs. Predator franchise exists, the movies are largely considered non-canonical, which is why fans are buzzing with excitement over the Alien franchise taking over the small screen with Alien: Earth.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, while showrunner Noah Hawley seemed interested in the idea, he remained highly cautious and wanted the show to prove its worth on television first:
''Dan Trachtenberg, he's on his own mission, and there's a bit of a firewall between the feature side and the TV side. Maybe in success. We have to prove ourselves on television. Maybe a larger conversation will start mostly not to coordinate, but probably to make sure we don't duplicate because that begins to steal some of the energy from the franchise. But I'm excited to see that film.''
In addition to the buzz about FX's Alien: Earth, fans are also anticipating the release of Trachtenberg's film Predator: Badlands in theaters in November 2025. While the revival of both franchises has instilled a new hope among fans( for an Alien and Predator crossover), Hawley's comments hint that the future will depend on the upcoming project's success on television.
When asked to the show's cast, both Samuel Blenkin and Babou Ceesay remained hopeful about a crossover:
''We'll just have to see. You'll have to as the season unfolds, but yeah, I can't wait to see that. I'm really excited to see it and I love that there is a slight crossover there in universes...'' Blenkin said
''It's wonderful as well to see both these franchises that are so iconic, coming back, coming back and coming back so strong. We were at Comic-Con and they were there as well. It's just the atmosphere, the buzz, and they've had a crossover before, so anything is possible, right?'' Ceesay shared his co-star's excitement
Can Alien: Earth tease a potential crossover with the Predator franchise?
While Hawley was cautious in his comments about a potential crossover between the franchise, eagle-eyed fans believe that the Alien: Earth trailer has already teased a crossover with its sister franchise by an implicit mention of Xenomorphs' biggest rival, the Yautja.
The upcoming series will follow the first prototype hybrid, Wendy (Sydney Chandler), and her group of tactical officers, as they come face-to-face with terrifying extraterrestrial species after a mysterious vessel crashes on Earth.
Among these species, while one is identified as the good old-fashioned xenomorphs, the identity of the four others is still shrouded in mystery.
However, Babou Ceesay's Morrow can be heard describing the species as:
''This ship collected five different life forms from the darkest corners of the universe. Monsters… Invasive species. Predatory.”
The last word was enough to tip the eager fans who believe that one of these species could be Yautja, resulting in a crossover between the two franchises. While these are mere speculations, the truth will only be revealed with the Alien: Earth premiere on August 12, 2025, on FX on Hulu.
