Peacemaker Season 2 introduced the character of Red St. Wild, an original character played by Guardians of the Galaxy's Yondu actor Michael Rooker. St. Wild was introduced in the third episode of the HBO DC show as one of the DCU's expert eagle hunters. The fourth and fifth episodes feature scenes of a showdown between the hunter and Eagly.
However, Back to the Suture, the fifth episode of the series, has huge implications for the DCU. However, this episode also leaves Red St. Wild's fate unclear. While it looks like Rooker's character died on the surface in this Peacemaker Season 2 episode, James Gunn did not explicitly confirm that the hunter is dead in Peacemaker: The Official Podcast with James Gunn.
Back in May this year, James Gunn described Michael Rooker's character in the Entertainment Weekly interview as:
"His name is Red St. Wild, and he's the world's foremost eagle hunter who is on a mission to kill Eagly. We thought Eagly was probably the most popular character from season 1, and so in season 2, he has his own story with his nemesis, played by none other than the despicable Michael Rooker."
Red St. Wild, the eagle hunter in Peacemaker Season 2's fate, explained:
Red St. Wild and Eagly have their second fight in the last act of this episode. It begins with St. Wild down using a punt gun to bring down Eagly. It begins with a fake-out of Red St. Wild shooting down an eagle. While we are under the impression that the shot bird is Eagly, we soon learn that the shot eagle is a different bird.
The real Eagly and several other birds attack simultaneously, and Red St. Wild is bloodied up, supposedly bringing his role to a close in Peacemaker Season 2. In the same scene, the hunter sees magical fire appearing behind Eagly, which may hint that Christopher Smith's bald eagle might be magical. However, it is unclear if Eagly is magical or not.
If Eagly is magical, Chris might be one of the most powerful beings in the DCU:
There has been something mysterious about Eagly ever since he was introduced in the season 1 premiere. In the fourth episode of Peacemaker Season 2, Red St. Wild comes up with a theory that Eagly is the "Prime Eagle"; however, John Economos doesn't buy that theory. However, the fifth episode may hint that this St. Wild could have been right.
If Eagly is the "Prime Eagle," Chris may be one of the DCU's key players, considering season 2 is supposedly setting up the Superman sequel, Man of Tomorrow. But it should be noted that we will get a clearer picture of the DCU in the last three episodes of this season.
The press saw the first five episodes last month:
James Gunn was interviewed by Brandon Davis at the red carpet premiere of the show. There, Gunn revealed that while the first five episodes of Peacemaker Season 2 were made accessible to some, the last three episodes, i.e., 6, 7, and 8, were secret. When asked for a reason behind the secrecy, Gunn answered:
"It could mean they're terrible. That is one option. Or it could mean that there's a lot of major twists and turns in the last three episodes. And even though I'm sending the first five to a select few, things still get out as you know. Things got out already. You know, people who want to search can be spoiled on purpose, but I really don't want what's in those last three episodes to be spoiled. And so I'm keeping them close to the chest. I won't even let my publicist see them. That's the god's honest truth."
Now, as all of us have caught up, it seems that the sixth episode, releasing this coming Thursday, is set to shock everyone across the world.
