NBC's crime drama series Blindspot remains one of the most underrated and intriguing action or mystery thrillers to date. The show premiered in 2015 and wrapped up in 2020 after five seasons.

However, it still left a divisive question with the finale end which is: Does Jane die in Blindspot Season 5? While the finale of the series depicted an ambiguous ending, many believe Jane Doe, played by Jaimie Alexander, died in the finale after not being able to get the antidote for ZIP on time.

More on this in our story.

Does Jane die in Blindspot Season 5? Character’s fate explored in depth

In Blindspot, Jane Doe is found in Times Square and is unable to recall her identity due to the side effects of the ZIP drug's overdose. As per the series, it is a drug used to treat Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. However, due to ZIP poisoning, Jane suffers from hallucinations.

As the series progresses, Jane creates a life for herself with Weller and his FBI team, with whom she begins to work on challenging cases. In the finale, it is revealed that Jane had been poisoned again by the ZIP drug and has to take Patterson's antidote injection.

However, she later realises that the intense hallucinations that she was having and seeing so many people from her past, are also helping her to solve the case and find the last ZIP bomb planted by Ivy Sands. Therefore, she refuses to take the second dose and successfully finds the bomb.

At the end, it is shown that Jane is enjoying dinner with her family and friends, but she ends with her staring into the camera without blinking. The ambiguous ending will surely remind viewers of HBO's The Sopranos.

However, in Blindspot Season 5 ending, most of the viewers are convinced that Jane died at the end. In the episode, Jane was suffering from hallucinations. Therefore, viewers speculate that the happy ending was Jane's last hallucination as she coped with the ZIP poisoning and her impending death. While many believe Jane received the antidote on time and was saved at the end.

In 2020, Blindspot creator Martin Gero shared with TVLine that the ambiguous ending of the crime drama series was intentional and stated:

"I don't think there is a correct interpretation of it. I obviously have my intent, and I and the writers have a strong idea of what we believe. But we wanted it to be a bit of a Rorschach test, and I can't believe how effective it is. Fifty percent of the people [who saw the finale ahead of time] think she's definitely alive, and 50 percent of the people think she's definitely dead. We wanted it to be everything for everybody."

He further revealed that they wanted to include everything that they and the viewers wanted so that everyone would be satisfied with the ending, and decided to keep Jane's fate ambiguous.

Along with Jamie Alexander, Blindspot also stars Sullivan Stapleton, Ashley Johnson, Rob Brown, Ukweli Roach, and Audrey Esparza, among others.
