Fallout fans and Trekkies love an Easter egg. And the newest trailer for Fallout Season 2 just delivered one. Alongside the Elvis-ghoul cosplay crew and a full-blown Vault musical number, Prime Video reintroduced one of the franchise’s most enigmatic players: Mr. House, played in live-action by Justin Theroux!
Theroux spent the last decade proving he can jump between The Leftovers and Star Wars: The Last Jedi without breaking a sweat. And now Mr. House is finally stepping into New Vegas. But with his arrival comes a legacy detail: this character has a very real and beloved Star Trek connection.
Let’s get into why this reveal has gamers geeking out, Trekkies buzzing, and many of us else Googling, "Who voiced Mr. House?"
Mr. House is Star Trek royalty, too
In the Fallout: New Vegas video game, Mr. House was a post-apocalyptic world builder. He was brought to life by René Auberjonois. he was the late legendary actor behind Odo on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Fans still remember Auberjonois’ unmistakable voice.
Auberjonois’s performance as Mr. House gave the character personality and enough moral slipperiness to make players question every alliance. Even now, footage exists of Auberjonois recording lines like a CEO.
So yes, when Justin Theroux steps into the vacuum-sealed shoes of Mr. House, he’s inheriting Star Trek lineage. And Fallout fans noticed.
The new trailer feels like a nod to this legacy. Theroux's Mr. House is the core of Vegas's luxurious survival. He seems to be the kind of person who knows everyone's secrets and has probably made some of them up himself. According to the lore, he may have even played a role in the nuclear destruction.
So his influence is well understood.
Mr. House runs Fallout Season 2
When Season 2 makes the unsafe detour to New Vegas, Mr. House takes on an accelerating factor. The city has made it through the end of the world in appearance, but it is Vegas in the sense of morality.
Mr. House, who founded and runs New Vegas, is at the base of Fallout.
Ella Purnell's character Lucy MacLean is still searching for her father, Hank, who played a role in the nuclear ruin of the world. She is right now on what she refers to as a "buddy road trip" with Walton Goggins's character, the Ghoul.
As the Brotherhood of Steel walks closer to anarchy, Maximus (Aaron Moten) must manage a new knighthood with another ethical dilemma. And with Deathclaws on the loose, ghouls running Vegas nightclubs, and bizarre musical numbers from the Vault Dwellers, Mr. House feels like a calm before a storm.
Justin Theroux's sole mission as of now is to honor Auberjonois' legacy while bringing a beloved video game titan to life. Fans can bet that Mr. House will be a great character, as the actor who plays him has a rather glittery resume.
Fallout Season 2 premieres December 17 on Prime Video.
