Legally Blonde fans have now reason to rejoice because the film’s prequel series, Elle, has finally gotten an update regarding its release window. Prime Video has announced that Elle will be arriving in the Summer of 2026.

The prequel series will be focusing on the iconic character of Elle Woods, as she navigates her teenage years and will show her experiences in high school that help her to become the person she is, as shown in Legally Blonde.

Lexi Minetree will be playing the role of younger Elle in the prequel series, a character who has been made into a pop culture icon by Reese Witherspoon in the Legally Blonde film.

Reese Witherspoon has expressed her excitement over Elle

Given how Reese Witherspoon gave life to the character of Elle Woods and made her an icon, a show that gives more insight into her growing-up years is naturally bound to excite her. Talking about how she got the idea for making Elle, as a prequel to Legally Blonde, Witherspoon said to Jimmy Fallon,

“I saw that Wednesday Addams show and I was like, ‘Oh, she was in high school.’ I loved it. I watched every episode. I thought it was amazing. We should do Elle Woods in high school because I wanted to see who she was before college, before law school. And I started having all these ideas and these amazing writers came up with a great pitch and now Amazon is making the show and it’s called Elle.”

She also talked about the auditioning process for Elle and how it was very different from what happened back in the day, and said to The Hollywood Reporter,

“Now it’s different because we used to audition and we’d go into a casting office. Now they have to shoot, produce, do all the costumes [for auditions]. They have to put together videos that are basically like a mini movie. It’s crazy!”

Elle is created by Laura Kittrell, and she is an executive producer and co-showrunner along with Caroline Dries. Other executive producers include Marc Platt, Witherspoon, and Lauren Neustadter.

Besides Lexi Minetree as the titular character, the cast of Elle also includes June Diane Raphael, Gabrielle Policano, Tom Everett Scott, Jacob Moskovitz, Zac Looker, Chandler Kinney. Recurring cast members include David Burtka, Logan Shroyer, Lisa Yamada, David Burtka, Amy Pietz, Kayla Maisonet, and Brad Harder.

Elle will be streaming on Prime Video upon its release.
