More on this in our story.

Does Monty die in Landman Season 1? Character's fate explored

Jon Hamm played the character of Monty Miller, the owner of M-Tex Oil in Landman. After an accident on the site, Monty was stressed about the aftermath of it, as initially, the widows of the victims were not ready to sign easily. The stress of the job and the situation caused a fifth heart attack, due to which Monty had to be taken to teh hospital.

His health was not improving, as he immediately needed a heart transplant. In the finale of Landman Season 1, Monty was found unresponsive on the floor. While the doctors were trying to stabilize his condition, Tommy was made the president of M-Tex and all of Monty's business, which he only accepted after Cami and Alan were on board as directors.

Not long after, it was revealed that while he was in surgery, his aorta ruptured and he died. While Monty's death was not explicitly addressed in Season 1, as per the Hollywood Reporter, Landman co-creator Christian Wallace confirmed Monty's death first. While talking to Hollywood Reporter, Jon Hamm talked about his character's death and how he enjoyed sharing screen with renowned actors such as Thornton and Moore. He stated:

"Those kinds of scenes are particularly difficult because you’re on your way out, basically, and that’s not fun. But honestly, being with the caliber of actors that I was with - Demi [Moore] and Billy Bob and everybody involved - it was just truly outstanding."

Monty's death at the end of Landman Season 1 is crucial to the story of Tommy and Cami as well. At the end of the episode, Tommy was kidnapped by the cartel, through which he got to meet the Cartel boss, who surprisingly did not want to fight but become a partner in the oil business.

Season 2 of Landman picks up from where it left off, with Cami and Tommy entangled in the oil business and how they tackle the challenges that resulted in Monty's death due to excessive stress.
