Does Mr. Russell die in The Gilded Age?
As George Russell was prepping to head out to the Union Club, after celebrating his success (Larry's) with his well-wishers, Jones told him that his cab was waiting for him outside. At this moment, a young deliveryman knocked at the door, uttering,
"I have a delivery for Mr. George Russell."
All of a sudden, the deliveryman took out his pistol and fired at Jones first and then aimed right at George Russell. Even though the closing scene did not show whether the bullet hit or missed George Russell, it is quite clear from the preview that he was shot. In the preview of The Gilded Age Season 3, his wounded body was brought to the Russells' mansion. Whether he will live or not is still a mystery. But one thing is clear: with power and success comes a looming threat.
Neither Sage nor Clay was quite happy with George's success. Especially Clay, who once worked for George and then joined hands with Risley to tarnish the Russells' reputation, but Larry's last-minute trip to Arizona and the discovery of high-grade copper saved the Russells from financial ruin.
Morgan Spector, who plays George Russell, told Variety that the fans should be concerned about George's health, as medical science was not that advanced in the 19th century, and that might threaten the railroad titan's health. He shared,
"You should be very worried. In the 19th century, gunshot wounds from up close were extremely dangerous. Many people didn’t survive them. I don’t have a contract for next season yet, so who knows?"

Who wants to kill George Russell in The Gilded Age Season 3?
While viewers were still reeling from John Adams' sudden death in Episode 6 of The Gilded Age, George Russell's assassination attempt in the penultimate episode came as a sudden jolt. Sure, things were not looking quite great for the railroad titan at the beginning of the episode, with failing finances and a deal, pressure from J.P. Morgan, and Bertha's nagging pushed George to a breaking point where he took it all out on his ambitious wife.
Nonetheless, when his son Larry arrived from Arizona, he brought good news. He shared that they found high-grade copper in the land and their profits would skyrocket in the future. With his successful deal with the Merricks and J.P. Morgan on his side, George Russell's finances looked secure.
He then met Risley Sage and Clay, and when they learnt about his success, Risley fired Clay. George Russell mocks Clay and offers him a position in the Pittsburgh mills as a worker, but Clay replies,
"I won't die away that easily, Mr. Russell. I am a cockroach with a thousand lives."
So the question remains: who wants George Russell dead?
It's not a random attack. George, a self-made titan of industry, has several enemies. At the top of the suspect list is Clay-once George's trusted right hand, now a disgraced rival. Fired and financially ruined, Clay has every motive to orchestrate an ambush.
But vengeance might also come from somebody behind the shadows. Labor unrest, political fallout, or personal vendetta tied to Bertha's aggressive social climb- every angle simmers with potential.
The Gilded Age doesn't do accidents. In a world ruled by pride and position, someone wants Russell's empire to collapse, starting with him.
