Netflix's latest crime thriller miniseries, Untamed, follows Kyle Turner, a special agent with the National Park Investigative Services Branch, who is assigned to investigate a Jane Doe murder in Yosemite National Park.

Kyle is paired with a rookie ranger, Naya, and they both struggle to uncover Jane Doe's identity and solve her murder mystery. As Kyle works on this case, he also uncovers various mysteries about his past and an illegal drug ring, being operated by an insider.

By the Untamed finale, the mystery behind Jane Doe's death comes to light, and Kyle discovers that she was Lucy Cook, a runaway teenager from a foster home. After she started working as a drug mule and blackmailed her father, she died by jumping off the peak of El Capitan, where her body was discovered.

More on this in our story.

How did Kyle and Naya identify Jane Doe in Untamed?

While Kyle and Naya were assigned to solve the murder mystery of the young woman found dead in the Yosemite National Park in Untamed, their primary goal was to uncover her identity and find things about her past that would help their investigation.

Naya investigated that Jane Doe was a runaway teenager who was living the squatter life in the park and went by the name of Grace, which was probably not her real name. They found a strange X tattoo on her body, the same which they also found on many drug bottles in the area.

As Kyle and Naya explored the deeper and more remote parts of the park in Untamed, they discovered a hidden drug lab, producing pills in bottles marked with X. Moreover, Kyle also discovers the same pill bottle in the wildlife management officer, Shane Maguire's camp, and he suspects that he was the one running an illegal drug camp in and out of the park.

Putting two and two together, Kyle and Naya conclude that Grace was acting as a drug mule for Shane, hence the X tattoo on her body.

Who killed Jane Doe in Untamed?

While all evidence pointed towards Shane, a DNA test in the Untamed finale changed the trajectory of Kyle's Jane Doe's murder investigation. He learned that Grace was the biological daughter of his boss, Chief Paul Souter, and was actually named Lucy Cook.

Paul had Lucy out of wedlock with a woman, but fearing for his reputation and job, he left them both. While Paul placed Lucy with a foster home, it was an abusive and dysfunctional space, which is why Lucy escaped and started living as a squatter in the park and became a drug mule for Shane.

As Paul revealed to Kyle in the Untamed finale, Lucy reconnected with his biological father and started blackmailing him by threatening to expose herself as his daughter in front of the world. Fearful about his reputation once again, he asked her to meet him in the park, which resulted in a tragic end for the woman.

On the day of her death, Paul carried a gun (to threaten Lucy just in case). However, Lucy started running away from her father when she saw the gun. Fearful that she might expose his secret, Paul shot Lucy in the leg to stop her and chased her around the park until they reached a dead-end.

Upon reaching the peak of El Capitan, Lucy could have either jumped to her death or surrendered herself to Paul. She chose the first option and threw herself off the cliff, tragically becoming Kyle's Jane Doe from the premiere.
