Netflix’s The Hunting Wives has found a dedicated fan following and continues to trend even weeks after its premiere. The mystery drama revolves around Sophie O'Neil, played by Brittany Snow, an outsider who joins an elite group of women in the town of Maple Brook.
However, she is soon sucked into a web of lies and deceit and is framed for a teenage girl, Abby’s murder. By the end of the season, she realizes her lover Margo had killed the girl, and she ends up murdering Margo’s brother, Kyle.
The show concludes with several burning questions, one of them being: Does Sophie go to jail in The Hunting Wives? Well, Sophie does not go to prison, at least by the end of the first season.
Sophie does not go to jail at the end of The Hunting Wives
Sophie does not go to jail for killing Kyle in The Hunting Wives. However, what she does at the end of Season 1 could definitely land her in trouble in a potential second season if people find out.
The show begins with Sophie moving from Boston to a small Texas town with her husband, Graham. She quickly becomes friends with an elite local woman, Margo, who introduces her to a group of rich and wild wives. They drink, party, and go shooting together.
However, things take a dark turn when a teenage girl named Abby is found dead in the woods. The police discover that Sophie’s gun was used to kill her, and she becomes the main suspect. As Sophie tries to clear her name, she uncovers some dark secrets about her supposed friends.
It turns out that Margo, who was Sophie’s friend and lover, had been secretly dating Abby’s boyfriend, Brad. Margo became pregnant and had an abortion. When Abby found out about the affair and the abortion, she got angry and threatened to tell everyone.
Margo got drunk and grabbed Sophie’s gun to shoot Abby. Instead of confessing, she let Sophie take the blame to protect her own life and her husband’s run for governor. Eventually, Sophie finds out the truth. She confronts Margo, who feels threatened and seeks her brother Kyle’s help.
One night, Kyle follows Sophie, bangs on her car, and points a gun at her. Sophie panics and drives straight into him, killing him. However, instead of calling the police, she drags his body through the woods and pushes it off a cliff, hoping no one will find out.
Just before she lets the body go, Kyle’s phone rings. Sophie accidentally answers it. It is Margo. Sophie doesn’t say a word, but she just breathes into the phone. Margo knows something terrible has happened to her brother.
The Hunting Wives ends with this scene, with Sophie remaining out of prison. However, if the show is renewed for a second season, Sophie will have to cover up her crime if she does not want to end up in jail. If the body is found or if Margo realizes that Sophie killed her brother, she could end up in serious legal trouble.
The Hunting Wives is available to stream on Netflix.
