Marvel Zombies, the animated four-episode miniseries, was released in its entirety on September 24, 2025. While there are multiple protagonists in the series, the character at the center of the entire series is Kamala Khan (voiced again by Iman Vellani), who attempts to fix everything. Over the course of the four episodes, we see countless fan favorites succumb to the zombies.

One of the fan favorite characters we see in Marvel Zombies is that of Yelena Belova and Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian. Both David Harbour and Florence Pugh return to voice their respective characters in animation. But some of the most heartbreaking moments in the first three episodes of the series are when we see everyone related to Black Widow succumb to the zombies.

Does Yelena die in Marvel Zombies?

Simply put, yes, Yelena dies in the last act of Marvel Zombies episode 2. The last act of the first episode sees her mother, Melina, succumb to a horde of zombies led by a zombified Okoye. After Melina's loss, Yelena promises to aid Kamala in her quest to contact the Nova Corps for help. In the second episode, she, Alexei, Blade, and Kamala make it to a "safe haven", which turns out to be the Raft led by Baron Helmut Zemo.

However, Zemo's refuge wasn't as safe as they thought, as Zemo decides to betray Kamala, Blade, Yelena, and Alexei by ejecting their cell to the sea and feeding them to Namor and his people, who are zombies. But the zombiefied Talokanil people, including Namor, break in and wreak havoc. Yelena, Kamala, Katy, Shang-Chi, Alexei, and Zemo manage to escape into an escape pod, whose launch is overridden by Yelena, who stays behind in the sinking Raft.

We later see a zombified version of Yelena as a part of Wanda's horde in the Marvel Zombies finale, and that's the last we see of her in this animated series.

What happens in the finale?

The finale opens with Kamala, Valkyrie, Katy, Shang-Chi, and Blade being attacked by the Nova Corps, who have quarantined the MCU zombie Earth. But the four are saved by the Wizards of the Kamar-Taj, who want to stop the zombie Wanda from getting to the Hulk, who is protecting reality. However, the team is overwhelmed by the zombie horde.

Wanda finally manages to acquire Hulk's power, and she convinces Kamala to join her. Kamala wakes up in an idyllic world where everything seems fine, but soon this world starts glitching, and Kamala starts seeing glimpses of zombies. She is seemingly contacted by the zombie reality Riri, who had injected herself with a cure back in the first episode.

But we don't know what happens next as the series ends on a cliffhanger.

Will there be a Marvel Zombies Season 2?

Marvel hasn't green-lit a second season of the animated series as of now. But showrunner Bryan Andrews and Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum confirmed that they already have a blueprint for a potential second season of Marvel Zombies. They did so in a recent ComicBook.com interview. Winderbaum said:

“Please, like, people have got to subscribe to Disney+ and watch this show. If that happens, they will get more. And we are excited. We’re ready. We had a lot of freedom, you know, in development in terms of characters we could use or where we wanted to explore. But there were certain lore considerations. What Robert [Kirkman] and Sean [Phillips] did in that original book, it kind of branched off from what Mark Millar was doing. It was just a different time in the comics, a different universe. We were branching off of 616, sorry, of the MCU version of 616. The pieces on the board were in different places for us to start the story. That lore is very rich and expansive, and Brian and I nerd out all the time about other characters and other things that are happening in the universe at the same time, and where we would explore if we were so lucky to make a second season.”

All four episodes of the animated series are available to stream on Disney+. Binge them if you want a second season of the show.
