Down Cemetery Road ending explained: Amos' fate, Sarah's escape with Dinah and C's shocking move

Apple TV's thriller series Down Cemetery Road wrapped up with its finale, titled ‘What Will Survive.’ The penultimate episode left the viewers in a cliffhanger about Sarah, Zoe, and Dinah's fate. Previously, we saw how Amos killed Downey and Steph. The closing scene showed Dinah and Sarah on a boat while Zoe was busy distracting Amos. Unfortunately, Zoe was standing too close to a landmine, which detonated and hurled her to the ground.

The finale episode opens with Hamza looking for Sarah and Dinah. He then texts C that he's seen them on the boat. C orders Hamza to kill them off. Back at Firinn Village, Dinah and Sarah get off the boat. Sarah scans the area as the duo heads toward safety. But little do they know that Hamza is keeping an eye on them. Sarah then finds a wanted picture of Zoe. She rips it down and crunches it. Sarah shoplifts some jumpers, food, and other necessities and runs away with Dinah while Hamza sits on a bench and watches them. It seems like he isn't ready to follow C's orders.

Back on the island, Amos heads down the concrete steps and prepares to leave. He then departs on one of the boats. Here's what happened in the finale episode of Down Cemetery Road.

Down Cemetery Road ending explained: Is Zoe alive?

Dinah asks Sarah about Zoe, and when she's about to tell her that Zoe might not make it back. Zoe appears all of a sudden, and Sarah's too stunned to express her emotions. Turns out, Zoe was saved by the ferry captain, Donny. Sarah and Zoe thank Donny as he leaves. Sarah then informs Zoe that the police are after her. Remember how Amos pinned the blame for the murder of the elderly couple on Zoe.

Amos reaches the island on Downey's boat. He hides his bag behind some garbage bags and keeps some grenades in his pocket. Sarah, Dinah, and Zoe rush towards the bus leaving for the train station. However, Sarah has second thoughts, and she thinks of going to the police. But Zoe makes her understand that they are in the middle of a massive government cover-up, and it's risky. They get on a bus, and it starts. But things seem fishy when the bus skips its usual stops.

Turns out, Hamza's driving the bus with Sarah, Dinah, and Zoe. When Zoe recognizes him, he asks him to stop, and the bus crashes right in the middle of a cemetery. Zoe, Sarah, and Dinah climb out of the bus, but Hamza kidnaps them and takes them to the church. Hamza calls C and orders them to finish them. However, Hamza is not so sure about killing them. He gets relieved when C tells him that he's sending back up.

Varma hands the envelope containing information about the military cover-up to Cheski, who then gives it to Talia. Back in the office, Talia confronts C and asks him about Dinah Singleton and the soldiers. Turns out, the soldiers who were about to be court-martialed were offered the chance to volunteer for a Research and Development weapons program. They were developing a new weapon and an antidote. Basically, the soldiers were guinea pigs. Talia is too stunned to react. While C yaps on how the experiment could have led to a game-changing innovation.

Down Cemetery Road Episode 8: What happens to Amos and Hamza?

C contacts Amos and tells him to go to the church to kill them. He sends him their location, and Amos asks Hamza in return for the task to be done. Back at the church, Dinah manages to pull out a large nail, and Zoe keeps it in her pocket. Hamza tries to make them understand that he's not a bad person; he tries to give a candy to Dinah, but she refuses. Amid the chaos, someone throws a grenade into the church. Zoe finds a channel below, and they slide into it as Amos enters the church.

Amos is still on his mission to seek revenge for his brother and wants Hamza to be dead. Sarah, Zoe, and Dinah crawl through the channel to find an exit. However, when Dinah comes out of the tunnel, Amos and Hamza notice her. Hamza rushes out to look for Dinah while Amos grabs Zoe's leg in the channel. Sarah climbs out of the channel and follows Dinah.

Inside the church, Amos hits Zoe and grabs her by the neck. Zoe takes the nail from her pocket and stabs Amos right in his eyes. Amos falls and hits his head on a hard surface, and it cracks his head open.

Sarah holds a gun right at Hamza, and he tries to manipulate her, but she doesn't back off. Hamza tosses his gun, and when Sarah drops her gun. Hamza takes it and shoots it, but it backfires. Hamza loses three of his fingers. Sarah picks up Hamza's gun, and she stuffs Hamza's mouth with her scarf. Sarah finally finds Dinah, Zoe emerges from the burning church, and it looks like a happy ending.

Sarah, Zoe, and Dinah cruise along the road in the stolen vintage car. Sarah blasts music in the car, and they continue their journey. Hamza isn't dead yet; he limps his way through the road with blood dripping from his injured fingers. Sarah, Zoe, and Dinah take the train, and they finally reach London.

What happens to C in the Down Cemetery Road finale episode?

In the office, Talia shreds Zoe's envelopes containing all the evidence against the military cover-up. C enters the office and tells Talia that he's leaving and he's taking the hit. C tells her that he has plans of his own. C walks towards a car, and as the car door opens, we find someone waiting for him already. The man presents him papers and C signs, and the mysterious man says, "Welcome to the private sector."

Talia faces tough questions during the interview about the military cover-up. It seems like the path isn't going to be easy for her, and her political career is failing.

Back at the station, Sarah and Zoe give Dinah to Ella, Downey's sister. Dinah meets her cousins, and Sarah kisses Dinah's hands. Meanwhile, Zoe prepares to leave as well. Sarah calls out to her, and Zoe waves from the crowd. Zoe tries hard to hide her emotions.
