As per Esquire, the series creators released an official statement describing the theme of the show. LaToya Morgan said:
“Duster is about a clash of opposites. It's about people from opposite worlds that come together under crazy circumstances, and are forced to work together. We watch their relationship grow over the course of the season.”
The series stars Rachel Hilson as Nina and Josh Holloway as Jim. The rest of the cast includes Sydney Elisabeth as Genesis, Camille Guaty as Izzy, Greg Grunberg as Abbott, Keith David as Ezra, Adriana Aluna Martinez as Luna, Corbin Bernsen as Wade Ellis, Donal Logue as Sergeant Groomes, Gail O'Grady as Charlotte Dean-Ellis, and Sofia Vassilieva as Jessica-Lorraine Sims.
J. J. Abrams talked about how he was always a fan of Josh Holloway and pitched the idea to him. The two then teamed up with LaToya Morgan to create the show:
“All I had was the title, the vision of the phone booth and being a fan of Josh Holloway. When I called him with this seed of an idea and he said yes, that was when I started looking for someone to do this with.”
“Finding LaToya was a dream come true. We have such different life experiences, but we have so much in common. We both could feel the potential in what this might be.”
