Dynamite Kiss episode 1 shows Go Da-min as a young woman exhausted from chasing her dream of passing the civil service exam (for five years now). While on the way to the university, she dreams of being a leader in a corporate world and even finding a man she likes at the office.

And just when the guy is about to kiss Da-rim, she wakes up to reality. Despite her hard work, her professor constantly mocks her for still being stuck in preparation, which deeply affects her self-esteem.

However, she forgives the professor as he gives her some coupons for shopping. This explains that she gets happy with small gestures, but deep down, Da-rim is falling apart. She's done with pretending to be fine, as she's miserable and unsure of her future in reality.

When she returns home, things don’t get easier. Her sister gives her tickets to Jeju Island, not as a gift, but as a way to keep her away during the wedding. Being younger and getting married first, her sister feels embarrassed and has also lied to her in-laws that Da-rim works in the U.S.

Even though Da-min senses this, she still pretends to be cheerful, not wanting to ruin her sister’s happiness. On the other side in episode 1 of Dynaimte Kiss, Ji-hyeok is dealing with his own problems. While his professional life is perfectly fine, his parents have arranged his marriage with Yu Ha-young, whom he only adores as a friend and nothing more than that.

Both Da-min and Ji-hyuk end up traveling to Jeju Island, though for completely unrelated reasons. Ji-hyuk is there for professional purposes: he’s trying to persuade Kim Jeong-gwon, a talented developer, to join his company. Da-min, on the other hand, just wants to escape the suffocating pressure of her real life.

Once she reaches Jeju, she unexpectedly runs into her ex-boyfriend Jeong-gwon, who has now become a successful figure in the tech industry. She gets flashbacks from the past when Jeong-gwon used demeaning words and humiliated Da-rim while dumping her.

She feels bad to see such a man rising in his career, while she's still the same or worse than before. Things become even more complicated when she sees that Jeong-gwon is dating one of Da-rim's old friends.

Da-rim gets nervous and lies that she's got a boyfriend too and that they're here for a trip to Jeju Island. Later, she goes to the cliffside and sees Ji-hyeok. While she doesn't know him, Da-rim misinterprets that Ji-hyeok is about to kill himself.

As episode 1 of Dynamite Kiss continues, Da-rim rushes to save him, and the two get injured. The misunderstanding leaves Ji-hyeok irritated, and he leaves her to deal with the bill for their unplanned encounter. Embarrassed and broke, Da-min finds herself in yet another humiliating situation.

The next morning, Da-rim and Ji-hyeok meet again during breakfast in episode 1 of Dynamite Kiss. She accuses him of taking advantage and leaving her behind to pay the entire bill. Ji-hyeok stays quiet for some time and then tells her that he wasn't going to jump into the water.

Soon, Jeong-gwon appears, and Da-min, still trying to protect her earlier lie, introduces Ji-hyeok as her boyfriend. Since Ji-hyeok also wanted to talk to Jeong-gwon, he plays along and turns a lie into a performance.

Soon, they find themselves invited to a social gathering where Da-min must maintain the pretense. Ji-hyeok even takes Da-rim shopping and gets her a makeover that stuns everyone, including Ji-hyeok and Jeong-gwon.

Ji-hyeok even slips a ring on her finger, making their fake relationship seem all too real. When Jeong-gwon tries to expose them, Da-min cleverly turns the tables, while Ji-hyeok impressively handles Jeong-gwon’s questions.

Just when it seems like their act is falling apart, Da-min impulsively kisses Ji-hyeok to stop Jeong-gwon from questioning them further. While they're both surprised. Ji-hyeok asks for another kiss by the end of episode 1 of Dynamite Kiss. And this time, they both give in, sharing a passionate and genuine moment.
