Emily in Paris Season 5 is currently in production, and a new casting update has confirmed that a villain will be returning to the show. Thalia Besson, who joined the series in the fourth season as Genevieve, has signed on to reprise her role.
Thalia’s name was not initially announced in the official cast of season 5, and hence, fans thought Genevieve’s story might have come to an end, just like Camille’s. However, the character is now officially part of the upcoming chapter’s narrative and will make recurring appearances in the show.
Genevieve is Sylvie’s stepdaughter who arrived in Paris from the US in season 4. While she seemed unproblematic initially, she eventually created a misunderstanding between Emily and Gabriel, which made her an unlikable character.
Thalia Besson to reprise her role as Genevieve in Emily in Paris Season 5
On June 25, 2025, it was reported that Thalia Besson had finalized her contract to appear in Emily in Paris Season 5. The previously announced cast members in the upcoming installment include Lily Collins as Emily Cooper, Lucas Bravo as Gabriel, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu as Sylvie, Ashley Park as Mindy Chen, William Abadie as Antoine Lambert, Bruno Gouery as Luc, and Samuel Arnold as Julien.
Additionally, Lucien Laviscount has been promoted to series regular and will return as Alfie after spending the previous season on the sidelines. However, one of the main cast members has left the show, as Camille Razat will not be reprising her role. As per series creator Darren Star, her storyline has reached a natural conclusion.
Camille was a major reason why Gabriel and Emily could not get together in the first four seasons, and with her departure, Genevieve might be taking up that role in the story. Genevieve is Laurent’s daughter and Sylvie's stepdaughter, who becomes an intern at Agence Grateau.
Since she is from the US, Emily relates to her and becomes her mentor in the firm. However, Genevieve falls for Gabriel and betrays Emily. When Gabriel has an emotional breakdown and lashes out at Emily in French, Genevieve mistranslates his comments and tells Emily that he does not want to see her anymore.
However, by the end of Emily in Paris Season 4, Gabriel makes it clear to Genevieve that he only sees her as a friend. In another twist of fate, his troubles do not end as Emily moves to Rome, where she sparks a romance with Marcello, played by Eugenio Franceschini, who is also going to appear in season 5, leading to another love triangle in the show.
Darren Star talked about Emily’s ever-complicated love life in an interview with Deadline and revealed that it is going to be the focus in season 5 as well:
“Her love life is always complicated. We have Marcello, Lucas Bravo is going to be back this season, so we have some interesting, surprising developments in terms of her love life.”
Emily in Paris Season 5 is likely to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2025.
